Tektyte - Intel Edison Platform and USB Display Modules

Our new crowd funding campaign went live yesterday morning. Not sure whether this is of interest but it may be good for a laugh.

The components we have developed include a new type of motherboard for the Intel Edison called an Edi-Expand which turns an Edison Compute Module into a Raspberry Pi but with adjustable voltage levels and direct console access.

Our crowd funding campaign for our little USB connected display and the Intel Edison platform board,  the Edi-Expand just went live. The links are below,

We have setup 3 Intel Edison’s in a live stream on the Tektyte website at www.tektyte.com and intend to see which platform performs the best using the Intel Edison as to tool to measure the race.

PS If you are curious about how our last crowd-funding campaign is tracking, we have been focusing on designing a test jig to automatically calibrate each Log4.USB and Log4.PoE. We are currently 6 weeks behind schedule due to a number of factors but are still working hard to deliver our first ever product to each and every backer. One thing we didn't account for is the need to increase the workshop and office space to accommodate the building of test-beds. As we are doing all the testing and final assembly in-house we have organise to move house to a bigger site that has better workshop facilities. Hopefully this will help get the Log4 devices out the door quicker.

Hey thanks.

We are very proud of the Edi-Expand and the USB displays. There are a myriad of applications for the displays and if you are used to Raspberry Pi development the Edi-Expand definitely feels a lot more familiar. We are working on a few expansion modules which plug into the R-Pi header such as an audio board and an 8-CH analog board but many of the existing expansion boards for the Raspberry-Pi work with it too.

thanks for the link. ok, I backed your project mainly to experiment a bit with displays and the edison. The raspberry pi has this big HDMI adapter which I don't need in my projects. combining your displays with the Grove Kit tinker kit, might be fun for some basic physical computing projects.

Hey Thanks Farsi!!

I am happy to hear that you backed the project. I am not sure how clear it is that these LED modules are much larger and brighter than 0.54" type stocked by the likes of Adafruit. Once you add up the costs of building a USB connected 8 module LED controller the IoT Counters are clear winners but the API makes it so simple to display scrolling text that they are probably worthwhile just for the ease of use factor.

I should time how quickly we can output "hello world" on an IoT Counter 16.

It's certainly interesting to see how the Indiegogo campaign is going compared to the Kickstarter.

I am kind of surprised. It is almost like there is no genuine crowd-funding activity going on at all on Indie-gogo. A great experiment in understanding just how effective exposure and community outreach can be in making a crowd-funding platform work or not as the case may be. Crowdfunding creates so many opportunities for learning experiences.
