You know, while several other members are giving their $.02, or pissing and moaning about your profits vs. workload and how happy YOU should be to be doing this for us, I'd just like to say:

Dave,

Thanks for CHOOSING to have another batch of rulers made, I've wanted to snag one since the first time I saw them, and now I have 5.  :-+

Thanks for CHOOSING to offer them so reasonably priced, shipping included.

Thanks for CHOOSING to stuff these into envelopes and mail them to all of us.  My Grandpa was a mailer, and I've stuffed enough envelopes to know that a even few hundred STILL would have been a pain in the ass, much less the volume you now face.  Take your time, I'll wait patiently.

You see, people, Dave knew this was going to be a pain and take time away from producing content (even before the #s went sky high) and he CHOSE to do it for us anyway.  Maybe some of you should just accept the fact that somebody has gone out of their way to do something nice for you and shut up.  Dave, I'll gladly wait to be the last batch shipped if need be, I appreciate what you are doing for us.  THANKS!

In retrospect, I should have probably told you that you suck so that Citizen doesn't think I'm on the payroll...  :-DD

I have enabled merchant credit card facility on my campaign using Pozible's system, bypassing this PayPal rubbish for those who want that option.

There is more important things in life than money.
I did this on impulse thinking I'd keep a few hundred people happy with rulers who have asked for them, now it's in the thousands and doesn't look like being a small bit of satisfying fun any more.

It is a good way to support you.  :-+  Thanks a lot and keep up the good work

A serius label printer will save you a huge amount to throuble and it's only like 80$
For bulk mailings, A4 label sheets in a laser printer are the  quickest, easiest & cheapest. Even ancient MS Word will merge from a CSV file to make labels this way.

Label printers really score for the odd 1-off or small quantity, for bulk mailings they are slow and expensive.

WOW! The human at PayPal in the Indian call centre actually fixed my account on the spot.
I'm stunned!
Should all be working again.

For those that begrudge Dave a small "profit" for his troubles (which doesn't  amount to a huge amount considering all the time and effort involved), Dave has been kind enough to post the Gerber files for the ruler.  You can download the files and have them made at virtually any fab house.

Of course the price for a small quantity will be much more than Dave charges.  Dave's providing a service to keep the cost low for everybody.

Well, i'm sure there is a way to automatize the process of print from csv.
A serius label printer will save you a huge amount to throuble and it's only like 80$

Yes, I have a Dymo 450 Turbo, and Pozible exports directly to CSV. No drama.

this is the ultimative proof, Dave is a terrible liar :)

I think uRuler would already have 1000% funded without paypal interruption. That video post really speed things up.

Dave,

Don't you have temp labor offices there?  Or the Ozzie version of Craigslist?  Seems like you could hire a temp for a week or two (or a couple of out-of-work types looking to make a few bucks) and get some envelopes stuffed?

Or has the insanity of government made hiring labor so onerous that it's not feasible?

Congrats on the success :)

I am baffled by people who grudge anyone making a profit.  I ordered, IIRC, 5 uRulers.  I think Dave underpriced them... I'd have happily paid more.
It's not always the most popular person who gets the job done.

I just got myself 5!   :D

I made a similar ruler 15years ago when doing a lot of PCB, extremely useful! Everyone should get one.

Maybe the ?Current can be next?  It doesn't seem to be available anymore.

Not that I want Dave to spend all his time stuffing envelopes.

Guess what my professional hourly contract rate used to be...
I'd rather be making content than stuffing envelopes.

But hey, that's my problem, not yours.

I have some suggestions:
1/ Turn it into fun and content, by live streaming the whole exercise of envelope stuffing and chatting to us the whole time.
2/ Pay a few school kids a few bucks to do the stuffing for you... Pity Sagan's still a bit young to stuff envelopes. ;)

I doubt it. The usual tail for the new video views would be past, so it should start to slow down fairly dramatically from here.

The shipping info on Pozible is a bit weird, no City field but Suburb and State, both mandatory. I hope it works...

This is now well into the amount where it would make sense to hire a lettershop service. Apart from being able to print labels and stuff envelopes and seal them far quicker than you ever could, you can also use their postage meter and possibly profit from the discount they have with the post office.

Where I am from, this is often offered by workshops for the handicapped/disabled, so there is also social value in doing so. Perhaps there are similar facilities in Australia.

Having done bulk mailing in the past, doing 2k of envelopes is hard. You spend a long time just getting set up with one table for blank boxed envelopes, one for the stuffing and a third to pack the sealed ones in. Same again for the labelling and placing the stamps. We were using 5 people to do this, sending out about 10k of envelopes and this took a week of work from the initial printing of the inserts to the final trip to the main post office to do the bulk delivery in bags.
