Zero Breeze - The World’s Coolest Portable Air Conditioner
« on: August 31, 2016, 03:17:06 am »
Someone on twitter thought this sounded dodgy.

They claim 1100 BTU/hr
So an EER of 7.33, and a COP 2.15
Not great performance, but sounds about right?

Still stupid marketing though. They show it on the beach, in a tent etc  :-DD It's mains powered!
And I wouldn't want a 48dB(A) motor going in my tent

They put a bluetooth speaker, a USB charger, and an LED in it.. because it doesn't work as an AC unit.

1100BTU wuldn't cool down my toilet on a hot day, let alone do anything useful to a leaky, uninsulated tent...

I stand corrected, it has an optional battery pack.

The zero breeze  uses on open places as the beach or a  boat deck ,that's a cachondeo  mental: you will have the cool face and burning  the  nape  :-DD (A good ad)

The fan on " airplane mode" results more  effective :more coolest and more cheapest

I call it plausible since small rotary compressors really do exist.

The efficiency, specwise, is going to be relatively poor due to the challenges of making a small compressor efficient and because it uses a cap tube due to the difficulties of making a low capacity expansion valve. But when only a small area needs to be cooled, the overall efficiency is going to be excellent since cooling a whole room is very inefficient when only a small part of it actually needs cooling.

I find it interesting that it specs operating temperature down to 14F as if it's supposed to double as a heater, which is technically true, but they don't advertise it. All it takes to officially support it is a second temperature sensor to measure the condenser outlet temperature and a bit of software to switch to regulating that temperature.

Well, they have delivered at least something.

Quite unsurprisingly, it does pretty much nothing. Seems my prediction was right.

Well, at least it sounds feasible that it does what is claimed. The 40Ah battery is about what you'd need to get any useful run time. Wheter it does anything useful is another matter though. You might be better off with one of these: http://www.chinaonlinemuseum.com/painting-fans.php No heavy battery required, runtime only limited by tennis elbow setting in.

1100BTU is equivalent to 322W of power, only 2.15 of COP compare to 150W input power which is very inefficient A/C unit.  The normal A/C unit has a COP which typically ranges between 3.0 and 3.5.
The human body emits about 100W of heat energy, this Zero Breeze only produce 322W of cooling energy that is beyond the capacity to prevent the temperature in the room/tent with 4 adults inside from increasing.
To vent the hot air out to the outdoors, air must come into the space to replace the discharged air, the air from outdoors is being drawn into this cool area so the enclosed space will NEVER cool down as claimed.

In india, we do have small coolers, but they add humidity ...basically theey are fans with water fountain behind them. While this one is pretty impractical.

We call that a "swamp cooler"

Before I managed to salvage an old phase change unit, on the hottest days I would build the "ghetto cool 2000" with fans, an aquarium pump and wet towels hung on a step ladder.  I like the phase change unit better.
I'm new here, but I tend to be pretty gregarious, so if I'm out of my lane please call me out.

I am impressed by the 12V, 40AH battery that charges in 5 hours at 3A.

Maths isn't my strong point but something doesn't seem to add up quite right. Or have I missed something?

Not sure its going to be all that great.  Since its exhausting the heat out the back end, how the hell do you use it without getting the exhausted heat back in the space?

Stick it in the tent door and wrap the tent around the center of it??  They show a vacuum hose stuck on it.  Ok, so its sitting outside the space, pulling in outdoor air (vs the indoor air), cooling it, then passing thru some shitty uninsulated tubing into the space.  Its better suited as a crappy dehumidifier.

Its a joke.
