At one time I remember installing Dip Trace on Linux - do they have a Linux version or is anybody using the windows version on Linux?
I am a hobbyist and I just want to try it out as when I tried it a few years ago it seemed fairly straightforward and likely easier to learn than most other similar programs.
But I was really sick at the time and so it didn't happen.

No Linux version, but they suggest it runs fine under Wine.

Still there is no native version for Linux.
I'm using latest free version on Linux through wine without problems.

I run Diptrace under wine on ubuntu and it has problems.
Don't try and edit the title and sheet setup the program crashes instantly, also adding a table to a schematic will cause a crash.
Diptrace support say its a wine problem because the program runs fine under windows.
so they aren't going to do much. I looked in wine bug list and there is no open tickets for diptrace.
hope this helps
Having said that everything else works for me and I would recommend Diptrace in linux

KiCAD has a native Linux version. You could also run Windows under VirtualBox and install Diptrace in there.
I haven't had much luck with WINE beyond very simple stuff.
