Never expected this to happen.
What is next? Driving cars through a Hypertunnel at sub-Hyperspeed?

Yeah, the whole concept was a joke from beginning to end -  out of contact with reality.

The news came on Wednesday that Virgin Hyperloop would be laying off 111 employees effective immediately, and transitioning its business plan from transporting people to transporting freight.

So its not entirely dead yet.

What's wrong with a 1km tunnel to move 0.5km? To drive from here to the road a half mile away is a 1 mile detour (strange  how these figures match!), the alternative being a potholed, suspension-killing stretch of roughness. I would consider it anti-genius to go straight-line distance regardless of everything else, but thunderf00t needs his clicks more than Musk needs credibility.

In addition: there are other companies still working on the idea. So 'no' to the click-bait thread title: hyperloop is far from dead or down.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.
