Really bizzare experience
« on: November 03, 2022, 06:22:02 am »
I went to Montreal recently to see a concert, that is kind of logical here in Ottawa, because it is not that far away and a lot of times no one comes here. I was avoiding staying anywhere and walking around until the early train left. I went to this automated washroom thing and when I was in it too long it started to act weird like it was going to sterilize itself with me in there, like the movie Elysium. It talks in weird messed voices.

I found some PR on it here.

Just plain old wipers.
Teens will surely vandalize it with ways that make it dirtier, each time a cycle runs.

About 10 or so years ago Seattle spent a ridiculous amount of money on something similar, I don't remember how much it was but I remember calculating at they time they could just pay somebody $15/hr to be a fulltime attendant and it would have been cheaper. It's gone now, I don't remember what happened eventually.

One of those is at Earlwood in Sydney.  It's horrible.

WELCOME TO EXCEL-LOO.  YORE MAXIMUM STAY TIME IS TEN MINUTES. *loud and distorted elevator jazz plays until you leave*

Family has found strap-ons tied to the hand rails inside it.

When it was first installed it was out of services a few times with technicians working in the back cupboard of it.  It's been there for a long time now (more than 10 years?).  Hopefully one day it will catch fire and get replaced with a proper toilet again.

Plenty were installed around the train stations here, they pay a cleaner to come by twice a day and wipe/scrub them down!

Uhg, that would be horrible to be trying to take a dump with some countdown timer. Once in a while you eat something incompatible and things don't go as smoothly as usual. I wonder what kind of person decides these things are a good idea. Lobbyist for the company that operates them?
