Not sure what TikTok has to do with Musk. IMO banning it like that is pointless, the lemmings will just hop to another channel. OK, it's not pointless if you own the other channels, I guess. When I become Stalin 2.0 I will ban all similar antisocial networks and reeducate their users - then it will have a greater positive impact :D |

I suspect the tictoc ban has a couple 'suposedly' reasons, but the arguments are weak. My opinion is they should ban, as laid out in the deadline warnings. Otherwise, why go to trouble if legislating that ban, only to go soft on enforcement. (That's the half-of-a-fight theory, where the stern, no compromise approach melts down into a passive shrug...Tictoc won't do what we want, so they get to stay, defying the order to sell off the U.S. unit. The basis that tiktok will 'spy' is hilarious as we have heavy spy activity just with U.S. companies, and our private conversations (and along with multiple undercover 'operatives' doing who knows what, manipulating criminal cases and evidence. Still a good reason to ban tiktok but that's like putting a ban on ONE ant, in the kitchen. The 'other' reason, that being that tiktok will somehow be exerting political influence is weak. Plus, you know, we in the U.S. have witnessed the abuse of our trust, in ANY dialog now, that claims; Foreign influence on election. THAT accusation path road has been abused to the point that Americans will now reject even legitimate suspicions (a dangerous attitude). To be clear, I would put the ban into effect, simply because that's what we said would take place, (if tiktok doesn't divest). |

thermahippy: with all proper respect, hope you understand, I like to debate, nothing personal here. Regarding the quote: "Land of the free", People claiming that corruption and official misconduct is going on, get shutdown by claims the 'corruption' is a mythical perception. (Very frustrating). BUT, the opposite happens too: Anyone claiming that (we in U.S.) are free, THAT gets a thumbs-down response as well. (Less frustrating, but an irk). That's the old thing: Damned if you do, or if you don't. But I've heard historians claim, that things are not done, it's a 'work in progress', and thus not a perfect freedom, (to brag about). |
