I just purchased anNanoPi-NE04 with power supply as it requires rather more than usual. I checked the output voltage under load and of course it dropped to just over three volts at three amps.
So I took it apart and found an unusual electronic component, a ballast gravity ballast that is.
A nice chunk of sheared off steel they even went to the trouble of plating it, obviously top quality ballast.

A gravity ballast... ok. ::)

Well, someone thought: The more power supply weights, the more power you can get from it. So I will take a regular 2A supply, stick inside some slab of metal to make it heavier, and here you go: 4A power supply. :-DD
I still have somewhere a power supply that is kind of too light to be a 12V 4A. Big enclosure but very light.

At least they maintained its RoHS status - they could have used Lead. :)

That kinda reminds me of the fake cable grommets you can find on some cheap chinese products and that serve only as decorative deception. |O
