Magnetic Frick'in Roadways.
« on: August 11, 2021, 12:03:29 am »
I just saw this on FB, apparently instead of copper we can just embed ferrite into our roadways, which can be magnetised to charge our cars on the move...

Am I missing something here guys? Someone overlooked the laws of thermodynamics?....

I don't see a lot of details but if I understand this page correctly they still need to apply some power to the road. It looks like their concrete with ferrite replace the coils. I can see that it is a lot cheaper to produce, but can it really be more effective?

And ferrites... that's so old tech. Put in some graphene and now we're talking!

I found this story through a similar article linked to from Facebook by Autoblog:
https://www.autoblog.com/2021/07/22/indiana-wireless-highway-charging/

Both articles make the mistake of assuming there are no wires or coils involved in the concrete, and say or imply it works by magnetized concrete (in other words, poerpetual motion).

This page on the manufacturer's website specifically mentions a coil embedded in the concrete, so it's not an attempt at just putting magnets in the roadway to make perpetual-motion charging.

Even inductive charging to a moving vehicle is pretty dodgy, but at least it's not perpetual motion.

With some advanced AI to control it all, it might be worth a shot. For getting cash.

So what? You put magnets in the road, as you drive over them, they induce currents into wires and you use it to charge a car?
Jeez where to start... Perpetum mobile. Lorenz force. To expensive. Not practical.
Why not put the magnets in the car, and then the road will drive the cars wherever... You cannot even speed and get a ticket, because the road sets your speed.
Or bumper cars?

Or maybe just wait 1-2 year for the solid electrolytic lithium batteries and be done with it.

It's pretty much on a par with the idea of putting wind turbines on your car to charge it as you drive...

I think they are trying to use the dynamo effect . So the car would be the rotor and the road would be the stator.  In theory its workable in practice is something else.
As the old German comics said.
Interesting but stupid. 🤪

Could also use it as a linear motor...
