People lost common sense on how to present their work.

If the original post would be plain and simple:

"I was experimenting with bifilar coils and got some really interesting results."

Even better if it adds:

"And here is a schematic and a photo in case anyone else wants to experiment."

Usually the truth comes out pretty quickly, whichever direction. A modest experiment can turn into a wave of admiration. A grandiose claim and big ego can turn to dust. In the end things speak for itself.

It seems some people think that it is a good idea to soak their presentation in grandiose claims, pretentious statements and arrogance. Wall of text - a common attribute. Basically pre-programming the obvious negative response. I suppose they just can't contain the grandiose delusions they have, it just slips out uncontrollably. Well, I don't know, but there are so many cases already that the pattern is clear.

Not to mention that some things just don't make sense. OP seems to understand at least basic electronics (successfully builds inverter), owns a scope, differential probe, etc., yet claims that the voltage on the cap raises instantaneously, because they observed it as instantaneous on a DMM! Like are you serious? You can build inverter, but you don't know that a DMM is like really really slow instrument? Honestly I can't comprehend such errors. It almost feels like something AI might generate.

You can build inverter, but you don't know that a DMM is like really really slow instrument?

The difference between being able to follow a recipe in a book, and being a trained chef.

Messrs. Dunning and Kruger have a tendency to slip in through that gap.

Xena, I like you (as a user of this forum), but I think it was the other way around when you say he started to insult people.

The OP didn't insult anybody.  Others (in fact most), started to attack him, instead of attacking the proposed theory, or the device(s) he built.

The text in the OP's first post was indeed written in a self-aggrandizing manner, and that automatically put everybody into the "judgemental mode" mindset.  And the replies following the first post were accordingly:  judgemental against the OP, instead of being explanatory about the proposed device.

What I kindly ask from you, and from everybody else here, is to never resort to personal attacks in order to end a technical disagreement.  Dave wrote in the forum rules that this is the biggest rule on this forum, "no personal attacks".  It is listed as rule 2) on this forum.  So the spirit is "be nice with others, and most of all no personal attacks":  EEVblog rules by Dave.

Even when you know you are right, and the other one is wrong, yet that other one refuses your correct explanation.  Some may refuse because they are stubborn, some may have not payed attention to your explanation, some may not know enough to understand what you were explaining to them, or maybe they are just trolling for attention, doesn't matter, but a personal attack won't change their mind.

And yes, I know some OP's are writing at the border of making other people angry, and yes, just as many others here, I suspect that this topic was probably started by the same user known former as Chet (and other former nicknames), and yes, I know your reaction (and other people's reaction) was natural, just that I don't want us all to have "group-bashing" here, on EEVblog.



I might be wrong in my reasoning, but I don't have the time to disentangle who offended whom first (and honestly, not willing to do that, even if I were to have the time), but since you wrote you wish to still have around a quote from the opening post of this topic, I am attaching a html capture.  Once unziped, it should be visible in the web browser as a scroll-able webpage.  Some browsers may not understand the single-file .html format, but LibreWolf or Brave browsers should have no problem rendering the html snapshot of that webpage.  The .html snapshot was taken a couple of days ago using the "SingleFile" add-on for Firefox.



In case you (or anybody else) is wondering why the hell would anybody take a snapshot of that?!  :o

That's because I didn't know before about the Tesla's bifilar coil.  Never studied Tesla's patents in particular, not a fanboy nor a hater of Tesla.  But I did like that idea, because it made me think it would be fun to rewrite the LC resonant frequency formula in terms of energy stored in the magnetic field and energy stored in the electric field.  ::)

I'm not even sure if a bifilar winding really lowers the self resonant frequency, as I guesstimate while reading that patent.  So, I've created a new directory with a new project for myself, where I saved the Tesla's patent, a text description of what I want to look for, but also a snapshot of the EEVblog page from where that idea of rewriting the LC formula originated.

I've also secretly hoped that, while researching the resonant F formula written in terms of energy swinging between its H and E form instead of written in terms of L and C, I will also discover anti-gravity as a side-effect  8), or maybe even more, discover the anti-grave-ity!  ^-^

(but I will never admit to have such hidden hopes, don't you even think of asking "so, how has it been so far?"  ;D)

That's not his original post that you saved. That is after he edited it. Maybe one of the admins can recover the original, maybe not.

I guess the Meanwell NTS400 inverter I just bought is also a magical device since it can deliver a whole 120! Volts! at 0 amps with about 6W...

And yeah, typical AI slop writing.

It's debatable and I found AI to be very accurate and the "slop" tends to be on the human end of things.

For example, most ask a vague question devoid of details then seem surprised by a corresponding vague answer as if the AI was supposed to read our mind. Then we refine our question adding more details and context and the answer gets better. In fact, most people having to deal with the general public have the same issues.

For example, as an engineer on 12 hr shift I would always get trouble calls by someone who has zero technical knowledge. They would say, well this thingamajigger next to the whatyamacallit just stopped doing the up and down thingy and is making a baruga baruga sound. I then have to decipher what in the hell they could possibly mean in a technical sense as it applies to the automation and physical systems in their proximity. AI is like that and if we feed it garbage we tend to get garbage in response.

I think most people have a melt down over AI because they are used to people putting up with their emotional baggage, misguide beliefs and other BS. They cannot deal with being contradicted by anyone or anything which tends to drive them batty. Ask the right question in the right context with sufficient detail and AI usually gets the right answer. In effect, it's not AI ... it's you.
