Dodgy or not dodgy?

Looks dodgy as hell. Their whole site reads as it was generated by Markov chain. A lot of meaningless blabber, but nothing is concrete.

"At Nanom we focus on innovations that push the boundaries of what is possible while making sure the solution is sustainable." Says it all.

There really isn't much information to work with. The blog articles are also totally meaningless, with some showing just some random, out-of-context pictures of arduinos. My guess, the page was just created by the design agency and they haven't yet gotten around to fill in some real content.

Yep. Well, that looks like a typical fresh startup web page. But Nanom was previously Greenvolt. Dates back to early 2019, got first round of funding in mid-2019 as far as I can tell.
https://startupiceland.com/2019/09/02/greenvolt-decentralization-of-energy/
https://nnom.com/greenvolt-becomes-nanom/

They managed to get EU funding too. If anything, that's often a good indication of how dodgy a startup is, especially if it deals with "green" projects.
And... "We are the Climate Impact Startup of Iceland 2020 as the Nordic Startup Awards."

If anyone finds any patent or scientific paper dealing with what they do, please share.

Got the info through some IEEE article: https://jobs.ieee.org/jobs/content/How-to-Prevent-Batteries-From-Exploding-Nanoparti-2021-04-19

I'd put the dodginess cursor at 90% at this point. Of course, if anyone from Nanom reads this thread and wants to correct this prejudice with more info and clear facts, please do not hesitate!

Maybe they've engraved the useful content onto a nanoparticle and lost it?

Looks like their chief scientist went through a couple of failed startups.

I smell a pile of nano-BS.

But at least here is "some" information:

https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101009493/de

Turns out, these EU fundings are quite nice.

After all, I found a hint about their product idea, which sounds reasonable, but rather "meh":

"Greenvolt project is based on creating nano-enhanced materials integrated into tomorrow’s battery technologies, thereby greatly increasing the size and surface of batteries electrodes and leading to more efficient energy storage through material innovation."

Here is how you can get almost 2M€ from the EU with some BS.

The "idea" is nice of course, that's how they get funding. A nice idea wrapped in nice Powerpoint slides and a few PHDs to make it look serious, and bang.

That sounds exactly like all the graphene-based projects out there. Now it's nanoparticles all the way.

Let me don my PhD-in-colloid-science hat and weigh in here :)

(For the young'uns, that's the correct term for the branch of science dealing with making "nanoparticles" - a horrible, moneygrabbing term)

Anyway, this company was previously Greenvolt. A review of the patent literature reveals they have filed (but not yet been granted) a patent application for a way to make nanoparticles.

https://patents.google.com/patent/US20180243750A1

To me, it is, in essence, similar to an air jet micronizer but for making nano rather than micro sized particles. I'm sure it's rather clever but certainly not what you'd expect their technology to be given their very vacuous salesy webpage.

So, note that they don't appear to be making new types of particles (i.e., synthesizing them) - they have developed a mill that can yield narrow size distributions of nanoparticles. But there are already well-established and equally-capable techniques. e.g., wet-bead milling for creating CMP slurries for polishing semiconductor wafers.

Since their technology is works on dry materials, I suspect it will create a lot of hot air...in keeping with their website.

Thanks for the info and the patent - if you look closely, you'll see that it's not just that it hasn't been granted yet: its status is actually *abandoned*. Yeah.

It's still pending in Japan, the European Union and going through the PCT process. But, I'm sure it will meet the same fate.

Now the funny thing is, this guy named Antonijo Licitar also invented - fanfare - this:

The plot thickens :)

He has to be very creative to be able to come up with this wording

“Apparatus and method for programming a crystal lattice structure of nanoparticles”

That almost sounded to me like audiofoolery.

What other better term can it put? What about something like this:
Modifications of particles in a lattice structure?

I like the drawings though image 1 of 19, a mill? if it works in practice.

More than hot air I think. Dry materials and that disk mix-master scream Van De Graaff generator. I didn't se any hint that their device deals with the inevitable charge transfer that occurs when the particles collide.

...Hey wait a second:... (sniff sniff... ...sniff)
   'Net Zero Energy by...2050' ...??
That's, uh, I thought it was '...by 2020,'
And then it got changed, to '...by 2030'...
THAT got changed to 2030, only very recently.
ADULTS IN ROOM, attention:. I'm seeing this climate effects, first hand, whilst you PLAY politics.
Yeah yeah, you people more clean than us people, (and by your declaration.)
Now, you wanna play with '2050'...funny, yeah, how about 2950 ?
Yeah, I agree with others posts, nano-hype looking like.  A sincere (corporate) player, badly needed, not climate hucksters, that don't know or care (about climate problems getting worse).
