Spidey senses went off on this one... CircaCharge
« on: February 23, 2019, 04:20:51 pm »
Maybe it's just the marketing copy, but this seems to me to be scammy. I saw this on a facebook post (paid ad methinks).

https://lc-track.com/blog/circacharge/en/p/1/

I'm paranoid that they're preying on our paranoia!

Maybe it's the comments all written within the last "few hours" but of course there's no way to comment

the official site:  https://www.circacharge.com

I'm sure it's just 1 in a million device charging scams (or at very least, extreme over stating of capabilities)

Wow, total scam with BS info, fake special offer, and fake comments.
The stuff about "Lisa Phan" in that first site you linked appears to be total garbage as well.  No other reference to her to be found, not even on the actual CircaCharge site.
Do a Google search on "circacharge scam" and you'll mostly get fake review sites trying to convice you it isn't a scam.
And the actual CircaCharge site looks a bit more reasonable compared to that first one, but it is still just an over-hyped crappy wireless charger.

Yep, fake as anything article, blatantly obvious, and the team image is ripped off from a startup company called XYO Network:

That is so obvious that it is something like the premise that email scams are deliberately written to look dodgy to the perceptive reader.  That weeds out the people who won't be gullible enough and leaves the truly clueless "marks".

That theory has always made sense to me, I wonder if there has been any actual study on it?

Maybe we can try reporting them to their "affiliates".

Easily found via Google Image Search:
https://www.google.com/imghp?hl=EN

Click on the camera icon ("search by image"), then enter the URL of the ripped-off image. Google will find pages which contain the same image, or similar ones (cropped, different resolution etc.).

Although I'm not quite sure this is 100% deliberate, I have also noticed that. This could be a way to explicitely target gullible users indeed, while possibly lowering liability in case of legal trouble (they can then always try and show that the emails are not fraudulent as they clearly appear as not genuine... don't know if that would hold, but could be an approach.)

In many cases though, one of the main things that look dodgy is the writing, and that may not be always deliberate. Many of these email scams come from countries where people doing that have a very poor command of english (or other) language.
