Trying to avoid the dodgy nanny cams
« on: July 05, 2022, 07:38:03 pm »
Can anyone recommend a low cost camera, that actually works:
1) Small (can be hidden)
2) records to a SD card
3) Preferably powered by USB
4) Motion detection that works (target will be about 2M)
    or
    Preferably records whenever the power is applied and will simply loose power when no recording necessary, but will not be turned off via a button, it will simple loose power when not needed

I don't want or need any form of wireless connection.

I tried one of the generic eBay ones that claim to do 1-4 above (https://www.ebay.ca/itm/392159793302?hash=item5b4e8b9096:g:PgsAAOSwDrpb1PqP), but:
a) Not reliable, most of the time when the power goes down the file is not closed correctly and ends up being corrupt and useless
b) runs very hot, to the point I'm not comfortable leaving it powered up and unattended
c) The battery is supposed to last an hour it lasts a few seconds at best

Isn't a hidden camera always a bit dodgy?  ::)

All three of those issues seem to be related to DOA batteries, likely shorted since they get hot.

Try Amazon, yeah, they are not above being sespit of scams too but at least the reviews can sometimes be helpful (just make sure they are for the right product).
