Yay! Another diamond battery. It's that time of the year...
« on: December 22, 2024, 08:10:00 am »
where wishes come true.

https://www.bristol.ac.uk/news/2024/december/diamond-battery-media-release.html

"Several game-changing applications are possible."
"It functions similarly to solar panels"
Now, where did I hear that before?

I want my cold fusion!"

Bristol University again!

Bullshit nebula of UK educational institutions, producing a microwatthour capacity nuke battery huh? Calling it "diamond" so people don't notice it's just regurgitated impractical snake oil.

I expect their PV space array money has run out.

   Xena E. :
Appreciate your comments, don't you think it is sad,  to see the legitimate aspects get sidelined by something like this current 'goal'.
I mean,  it makes us cynical, so that the next fusion development, (one that meets more common sense), gets lost in with all the losing ?
Anyway,  I did work on portions of the so-called particle beam weapons,  as part of Reagan's 'Star Wars' label they adopted.
(And hey,  did the Fed.s pay and license that from the movie creators ?)

The 'beam' was intended for food sterilization, by radiation, I think...(Lots of physics).
But it was a series of big tanks, oil filled, that did voltage boosting.  Took a 5 kV power supply to feed the input,...and some 2 megaVolts output.
Could have been, that it was either a 'Food sterilizer',  with hidden goal, of making a particle beam shooting 'Space Weapon'...

Critics sarcastically termed that as:
   "Particle Board Beam Weapon'.

BTW, Where's GRETA, these days ?  We care about climate and energy needs, just as strongly as Greta does.
Thanks,  Rick-Jack

Yeah Rick Jack.

Trouble is, these twerps are desperate to drag up anything to present in the hope of a grant. Sure, you dig down and then you find the grain of truth at the very centre of what they're trying to do, but then the bullshit gets piled on.

Shame really, as there's people who do solid research that get overlooked because it isn't headline grabbing sexed up nonsense.

Time was, universities would be sponsored by business and governments because they needed something specific developed... now it seems that universities don't need researchers, just copywriters to crow some woo woo foo, to get the grant money.

President Ron was before my time, but I can't see what was wrong with the driver behind one nation who was pissed at another, blowing some of their space junk to bits.

As for Greta, someone probably realised that her pointless jetting around the world giving motivational speeches was what was causing the friggin' global warming in the first place!

Didn't she get arrested for some shit a while back?

X.

Yeap, she wasn't the cute, precocious preadolescence teen any longer and she pulled one stupid stunt too many and got arrested at the Hague recently.   Lately she's also been working the I-hate-Israel circuit.  Anything, I guess, that will keep her in the news media circus spotlight and keep the donations coming it.

Thanks for that...I had been hoping, for a second, that Greta either got caught with crack...errrr,  'meth' pipe,  at an airport in Spain.
That's just my warped sense of 'drama'.

Similar to the gossip filled accounts of John Delorean getting busted for arranging a big cocaine sales deal,  supposedly because he was desperate for a bail-out, in his Delorean factory going bankrupt.
These off-color 'activities' are, like it or not, part of our collective history.
(Stimulants like that, above are bad news, and very harmful IMO.)

OT, sorry.
Delorian was handed the shit end of the stick, someone wanted him off the scene. His entrapment defence was upheld, but his business still went down the pan. He was a competent engineer and inventor, but not so great a business man.

Actually big shame, he was trying to do something worthwhile with his talents, make his fortune and create employment, unlike M/s Thunburgs ironic crusade...

X

Created  opportunity for the BACK TO THE FUTURE franchises including TOYs, I assume.
That movie helped increase PUBLIC awareness that technology, and 'mythical' applications of high-tech were getting blurred.

I wonder if Dr. Carl Sagan had made any comments about the phantasy movie ?

To save readers some time, I googled that:
Dr. Sagan made a good praise, of Back to the Future,  for being scientifically close to accurate.

Yeah, TOYs abound, like R/C DeLorean cars

Forgot to mention,  that FUSION active, does emit fast particles, that bombard surroundings, and causes new radioactive material to form.   Makes sense, as a fusion reactor requires shielding, just like a fission system.
So you've still got radioactive materials to add to any waste repositories.
At least that's what they taught in a Nuclear Engineering course I took,  (Cal Poly 1974, as undergraduate).

Bristol University again!
As soon as I see Bristol University in there and instantly reminded me of the energy harvesting device that Dave Jones debunked:

EEVblog #971 - Zero Standby Power TV - BUSTED!
10 Feb 2017
Quote
Bristol University have a neat new "zero power sensing" chip that takes energy harvested signals and switches an open drain output, the UB20M Voltage Detector. But the marketing has gone too far when they demo a TV that supposedly has zero standby power. Dave busts this smoke and mirrors demo.
