Yes he does manual routing.

Nothing betas careful hand-routing, unless you are routing a 32-bit parallel bus with 10 control lines and 4 different supply voltages.

Just how much difference does routing make on the quality of the circuit? I know with care one can usually reduce the size of the board, which will ultimately save money and make for a more convenient product, but for the actual effect on performance; if it works reasonably well in a breadboard, wouldn't there be no noticable effect on the product (due to auto-router) unless VERY high frequencies are involved?
