How to send vscores off for gerbering two PCBs at once?
« on: May 13, 2022, 03:22:33 pm »
Hi,
Just been web searching to find out how to gerber up PCBs with vscores.
I have used a  0.1mm "vscore" line over the 0.1mm "dimension" lines.

Will this be OK to gerber up like this?
Do i have to give details separately of the vscore dimensions?

I wish to have just these two boards made up.

Do you ever make an effort to do your own research?    :-//

A 5 minute search of JLCPCB's technical support, for instance, tells you exactly how to do panelization and their capabilities.
An other fab house, Elecrow, that I use has a similar description for their panelization.

We're all too willing to help, but you MUST make an effort to find the information first!   :box:

You haven't even told us which fab house you use.

  over.

"Gerber" is a (proper) noun.

Thanks, yes, i see that you've got to order PCBs in lots of 5.
So if i want to put 5 different PCB's on one panel......then i cant do that.......well i can...but i'll have to pay for 5 lots of that......i must buy 5 lots of that...ie 25 PCBs.
I thought there was some way round this?

..Unfortunately, on JLCPCB and everywhere else, what we want is a "special" and isnt dealt with by the PCB bargain trawler sites like PCBSHOPPER.com.
You simply cant spec up 5 different PCBs on one panel......you end up with 5 of whatever you spec....so that woudl give us 25 boards...when we only want 5.

Even JLCPCB's online PCB quote tool cant deal with this....you have to email them and ask.

I was hoping to put it into the bargain trawler sites like PCBshopper, and then select the cheapest place...but this isnt possible it seems.

Yes deffo big on own research....as you can see here in my free download SMPS course......i would love to know how many  thousands of times this has been downloaded .......it must be zillions as i used to get sheds of emails asking for the link when i accidentally  unshared it....

SMPS course_Big folders:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/17ij_pQLkAzzYeL_TRNci86sXHMirKHmD/view?usp=sharing

SMPS course_little folders:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WvElhDNfHI0EBei4rouSNEdWWTO1oCtJ/view?usp=sharing

I  wonder how i can find out how many times its been downloaded....i have to sign up for google apps unlimited but that costs.

Are you only wanting one of each board? If so, I don't think v-scoring is going to work for you since the scoring will be completely across the panel in horizontal or vertical lines. The gerber you show has board of different sizes, and while the vertical score is probably OK, the horizontal one (needed to make the smaller PCB from the larger panel) isn't.

V-score would be better when all the boards are the same size (so you can place them in a grid and get full horizontal and vertical score lines), which would normally mean all the same board. If you want different boards on a panel then routing is the way to go.

Hi,

I have used scored boards service at JLCPCB. When you do this you will encounter an engineering fee. As an example I had them make 3x3 arrays of this board for testing components: The board was 31.7mm x 31.7mm. I used panel by JLCPCB.

The result is I get 5 panel with 9 boards on each, a total of 45 boards for $7.80

If you panelize them like this:

You can get multiple boards, same design, without the engineering fee. But this is a lot of effort adding the routing and mouse bites. These panels are the standard price $2.00 special offer, $4.00 normal price.

If there are multiple designs on the same panel, you get charged engineering fees:

In your case if you order them separately, the first board will be $2.00 and the second board will be $4.00 and the total will be $6.00. You will get five of each. It will be cheaper and you don't have to mess around panelizing them.

I would just go with the two boards separately.

All this talk of panelization and v-scoring where the shipping will cost more than the two PCBs themselves.   :-DD

two different designs so you'll almost certainly have to pay for two PCBs anyway, so just make them separate

Yes, I'm sure that's occurred to most of us. However, it may be that he wants to have the PCBs panelised for component assembly purposes, or to sell as a panel - sometimes that looks better than a bunch of individual boards. And, of course, having the products boards all in one panel means you aren't going to find one of them has been lost down the back of the sofa when you come to build the product.
