cheap PCB 37cm x 13cm?
« on: July 15, 2014, 09:38:27 pm »

I've designed a somewhat large PCB that is long and narrow (37cm x 13cm). The cheap Chinese hobby PCB places, Itead and Seeed, size by "squares," so I'm having trouble getting a quote from them for this PCB. Itead has a "larger than 30x30" option, where you enter the actual dimensions, but when you actually hit "add to cart," it insists both dimensions are over 30cm. I suppose I could panelize to make the design wider, but really, I only need one or two of these boards.

OSH Park will handle this board, but they want $380 for three. That's just outside my price range for what is essentially Yet Another LED Matrix Project. :-)

Any ideas?

Regards,
Dave J

PS -- I'm in the US.

Advanced Circuits will do 4 boards for $33 each: http://www.4pcb.com/33-each-pcbs/index.html. Max area is 60 sq.in. so you're about 25% too big, but they might be willing to negotiate.

Electrically, yeah, I could. But this was supposed to be a piece of artwork, so one piece is definitely preferred.

http://dirtypcbs.com/ price 10 boards at $161 total - you need to choose Quantity 10 which switches to a new board house they are now using for larger orders.

That said, looks like their size fields are unbounded, so don't know if they can actually do that size.

Thanks! I'll give these guys a try. I hope dirty doesn't mean they'll screw up 10 mil lines and spaces!

Had not heard of them. But why does every place need you to create a login to get a simple quote? Gah!

Dirt Cheap PCBs is starting to look pretty good...

Send an email to sales@iteadstudio.com. They are very accomodating.
I just ordered a 4 layer 40cmx20cm board from them.
10 pieces was like 480$.

For these oddballs you need to contact them directly

Yup, Free Electron, I've exchanged emails with Seeed and Itead and both have requested the gerbers, so we'll see what they come up with. I'm hoping < $150. I really don't need more than 2 boards, including the one I will invariably destroy.

I'm somewhat surprised how these order forms work. I'm surprised that more don't start with the gerber files and give you a quote based on that, like OSH. The files contain most of the info they request for the quote. Of course, that would require uploaded their secret project to China, but if they manufacture there, they're going to do so anyway.

PCB Wing quote says it'll be ~$130 (+P&P), I've used them for PCB's larger than 600mm long, definitely a recommendation from me, if you need more than one, prices pretty much halve and the extra only costs $10 more than 1 alone anyway.

I've never been charged more than a quote before either.

According to PCBShopper.com, the cheapest way to get two boards of 37x13 cm is from Gold Phoenix ($110 including shipping). Next is Smart Prototyping ($159). If you want a non-Chinese manufacturer, the cheapest would be Advanced Circuits ($169). I'm assuming this is a 2 layer board.

PCBShopper.com lets you enter the specs for your PCB and gives you prices and delivery times from 18 different manufacturers (a 19th will be added this week). PCBShopper.com is a free site I created. I'm an electronics hobbyist and I'm not affiliated with any of the PCB manufacturers.

The price is 85 USD including shippment to US in www.dsc-pcb.com . If it is standard FR-4 2 Layer Board. I think it fits your description "Cheap".
