Create Altium PrjPcb from Gerbers?
« on: February 28, 2015, 01:33:01 am »
Hi all, I'm going out on a limb here...

I had a PCB design created in Altium Designer AD15 on another computer. I exported the gerbers and sent them to my other computer over email so that I could upload them to the manufacturer's site from there. However, now that I don't have access to the first computer, I noticed some issues with the board that I need to fix before sending them out. I highly doubt this is possible, but is there any way to import the gerbers into Altium on my other computer and convert to a PrjPcb file? I realize the gerbers only contain layer data and really no electrical data, but I was wondering if there are any really clever people out there who would be able to tell me how to do this without having to completely recreate my board?

I'm thinking I'll probably just have to wait until I can have access to the first computer again.

Thanks,
Matt

You can import gerbers as primitives (lines, arcs, etc.) but good luck reconstituting the electrical information.

yes it can be done

open a camtastic project in altium. import directory with gerber and drill
assign layers in camtastic
run the netlist generator in camtastic
from camtastic export to pcb.

done.

Thanks very much guys! I ended up just waiting and I packaged the project on my other computer and put it on a flash drive. It's definitely good to know it's possible though!
