ESD MAT - Europe - Balkans Area
« on: November 16, 2015, 07:44:16 am »
Greetings!

I have one question about ESD mat like Dave from EEVBlog has on his working table.
So ill make my self a new small lab, and i need small, but well made Anti-Static mat.
The dimenisons of working table will be  1m X 0.8m (im not quite sure, but somewhere in this range).

Back to the subject.  Do you know where i can buy this kind of mat in Europe area that is not too much expensive?

And Of the topic, best working table   height and dimensions  if  the room has ~1.1(1.2)m of width?

Thanks.

To Solder or not to solder, that is the question!

I found a 2 layered mat they use under laminate floors in commercial spaces that I ended up using from Praktiker.I wasn't looking for a ESD mat but I am very happy with it for a workbench cover. If I was in Bulgaria I'd take a picture of it but it is grey on top and black rubber on the bottom and is pretty resilient.I've spilled chemicals, resins, soldering on it etc and unless you heat something with a torch you arent going to burn it.

I would definitely recommend taking a look into it for the price.

You can get a 910mmx610mm 2 layer rubber mat in light blue for 30EUR + VAT & shipping (mat only, should cover most of your table surface). You'd need a ground cord and wrist strap, but those can be had relatively inexpensively (you can find these under the Related tab).

Be aware, this stuff is on the heavy side so shipping may run more than you expect.

I was checking the link and it actually came up @ 30 euro's before VAT and shipping  :-+ I might use it in the future but for it to be worth it to me I'd have to spend enough for free shipping because they add VAT to shipping in BG :(  As a example with VAT and shipping it was 70.15 Euro at the cheaper price it quoted me.In BG that's around 140BGN and just to put it in perspective that's half of my sister in law's monthly mortgage for a nice 3 bedroom apartment in a gated complex with a sea view,or starting weekly salary for a new EE just out of university.

If the OP could get a friend to join in and order enough stuff for the free shipping it shouldn't be too bad.Anyways I was just board at work and figured I'd put it in perspective for why I did what I did.

Sorry for me being so far from this post from last time..

My problem is this... I'm the only one who works with electronics in my area. I know few people who
work with electronics, but they aren't interested in this stuff...

2 weeks ago i found great ESD mat in Great Britain, but the cost of it with VAT and Shipping is near 100€ for a small
desk, forgot the dimensions.
To Solder or not to solder, that is the question!
