Good waterproof panel mount external power connector?
« on: November 12, 2014, 10:55:58 pm »
Hi all,
I'm in the process of making a power supply box for my pedal bike lights. The board currently works and everything is GREAT, but I'm not sure how to get the wires from inside the box to outside.

If I want to make it professional looking, I don't want to just feed wires through a hole then silicon the hole shut. Plus I want it to be removeable. My bike lights use these connectors.

Which is just a simple locking/waterproof barrel connector. It's "waterproofness" comes from the fact that they're REALLY hard to push together. I would LOVE to use these, so I wouldn't have to cut the connectors off of my lights, but I cannot find a panel mount one. One that I could mount to the side of my box.

Failing that, what other waterproof/female/panel mount power connector would you recommend?

By waterproof you mean IP67? This doesn't look waterproof and I wouldn't trust any connector. Maybe military style but this would be too much for your application. Why don't you use a cable gland like the ones found in IP67 junction boxes?

Well the entire bike light including cabling is said to be "waterproof." It's not like these are going to be submerged, just water resistant (to rain/snow.)

As far as IP ratings go, the connector you are after will be IP rated to some degree.

FYI IP ratings are two separate numbers, for dust and water penetration.

0 is the worst, being water freely flows through it and you can easily poke a finger through.
