Selective Assembly
« on: June 10, 2013, 05:42:53 pm »
Hi,
i am new to PCB Assembly.
I am told that to assemble PCB in attachment (USB and Phone jack), selective assembly is required. Can someone, in this forum, let me know what is "Selective Assembly" line?
Any information and equipment vendor suggestion in this regard is appreciated.
thanks

Pankaj

I think they mean selectively soldered - using a machine that can put a small 'fountain' of solder at specific places on the PCB.
Of course it could also be hand-soldered.

Usually they cover the holes with fast curing heat resistant rubber or kapton tape to prevent solder flowing into holes or onto pads where it shouldn't. The through hole parts are often soldered by hand.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.
