ODB++ sample files
« on: March 30, 2020, 11:09:46 pm »
Hello Everyone,

I've getting requests to add ODB++ export to Horizon EDA (see https://www.eevblog.com/forum/eda/horizon-eda-version-1-0/new/!) mainly for export to SI/PI analysis software that can only read ODB++. Fortunately, the ODB++ specification is publicly available these days: https://www.odb-sa.com/wp-content/uploads/ODB_Format_Description_v7.pdf Not as straight forward as gerber, but appears to be doable. The Valor ODB++ viewer is also available free of charge. The only thing missing are some ODB++ sample files since learning by example works quite well. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any ODB++ board files for download on the internet (e.g. eval boards).

Since quite a few altium users seem to hang out here, could someone export a small project to ODB++ and post the archive? Doesn't need to be complex, but should contain all the usual stuff like packages, tracks, filled areas, etc.

Thanks

Lukas

You could download either Diptrace or Pulsonix trial versions. They can both output ODB++ format and come with example projects.

You should download version 8 of the specifications from Mentor Graphics.
I am available for freelance work.

I found out about the version 8 spec as well shortly after posting.

Thanks for the suggestion, the pulsonix trial works as intended.

I checked the ODB++ homepage the other day and looks like they just recently added an ODB++ 8.1 sample file: https://odbplusplus.com/design/our-resources/
