pads pcb viewer
« on: July 13, 2021, 12:08:02 pm »
Hi, all!

I have a 15 year old project from a different company that doesn't exist anymore. Files are .SCH and .PCB.
I'm not even 100% sure it's PADS but it probably is.
I'm almost 100% sure it's not Altium because I can't open the files with Altium...

opened with notepad++, lines 4 to 16 in schematic file are as follows:

Drawn By Field
Checked By Field
QC By Field
Released By Field
Drawn Date Field
Checked Date Field
QC Date Field
Release Date Field
Company Name Field
Title Field
Code Field
Drawing Number Field
Revision Field

Any suggestions on what else it could be or is it pads?
Anyone has a (link to a) working pads viewer? Shouldn't a viewer be free software? Siemens took over and now I can't seem to find a working download...
Siemens "trial version" is a virtual machine on their cloud so I gave up on that (and also my trial is already finished).

I have a copy, zipped, it's about 275MB, too big to upload here.
If you still need/want it, we could arrange dropbox access or similar.
let me know.

Thank you very much, I sent you a personal message so you don't have to publicly post the link.

Those two extensions (.sch and .pcb) are also used by Eagle.  If Pads doesn't work, post the smaller of the files and I will test it.

EDIT: My mind slipped as I wrote that.  The PCB extension in Eagle is BRD.

Thanks for the offer, I just installed PADS and it's working.  :-+
Problem solved, I'm so happy right now!

I'm glad to help.  Happy viewing.
BTW when I got & installed the PADS viewer (around 2016) Mentor offered it as "Free" to anyone.

I figured I'd piggyback on this topic, namely a no-cost .PCB file viewer.

I'm not a PCB designer, but every few months I have to look at output from our out-of-house PCB designer.

Do simple to use, free, tools still exist? I use OrCad for schematic design, if that's of any help.

Thanks.

@vkristof, re: simple to use, free tools,  Have you seen the topic: "PCB/EDA software list" in this forum??
Many tools are listed there.
