Numbering system for SCH/PCB

Hi Guys,ng this:
I was wondering, what drawing numbering system you guys use for the schematics and PCBs? For instance, I looked at an Altera FPGA development board, and they seem to be using the system in the attachment. It seems that the first three numbers define the document type, then comes the project number and then the revision. Do you guys use a similar system, or something different/better?

After try to adopt a "smart" numbering system I have adopted a very similar scheme as suggested in this document: http://www.componentsengineering.com/procedures-guidelines-2/numbering-guide-bom-tree/. The schema of Altera looks very similar and could be adopted for every Parts, included devices, document, firmware, tools etc

I use something similar. My IDs are usually alphanumeric (not just numbers), which makes it easier to spot a given document with a human eye IMO, and I put the project ID first, then doc type, then a doc number (since you may have more than one document of a specific type in a project), then the revision.
