IC Identification/Block Diagram of devices in this Mailbag:

We've never seen any Fortior Tech ICs before, however we've seen Silergy parts before; most recently in the Google Home Mini https://www.eevblog.com/forum/blog/eevblog-1330-mailbag/?action=dlattach;attach=1050176.

For the lab backgrounds, why don't you just use the new green screen you bought?  and drop it in post?

I've always used the Edsyn soldapullt because they're local and they work really well. They're actually what I used at my first job when I was in manufacturing. I had a gold one, now I have the silverstat(it's static safe) and of course I buy them for people and keep maintenance kits handy. Good stuff.

Youtube has just messed with their 'Home' page video suggestions once again.  All I get are the same 14 videos for the past few hours instead of the full usual 50-150 recommendations.  It was a fluke I saw your video since it it appeared on the right hand side during playback of another video I was watching.

Another weird bug, going into youtube's settings on the left hand side clears the menu with a white void and all of a sudden, instead of settings, I get 133 recommend videos with the top bar returned having only a few of my topics of interest listed.

Have you noticed that when it comes to monetization and YouTube, the anomalies are always in their favor?

Regarding the recommendations i discovered something has changed, yet again...

Generally, i was used to scrolling through the list, and opening any video i intend to watch in a new tab. After i was done with the last video, i clicked the youtube logo in the top left corner to get back to the home page. Normally, this always refreshed the shown videos, that was the reason why i open the videos in a new tab when i want to watch several.
Now, after the change, the list is still the same, even if several hours passed.
To get the list refreshed, i have to click the youtube logo again.

Maybe that is related to your issue?

Other than that i can't really complain about the recommendations. Recently, i discovered the Lockpicking Lawyer that way ;D I rarely add new channels to regularly watch, those that i follow produce more than i can possibly watch anyway.

I have my own mobile shop-air.
Its an propan gas-bottle fitted with an quick release air connector & a car valve.
This way I am able to fill this bottle with an compressor, bicycle air pump & at the gas station.

A note to the nameing-Problem with Youtube:

About those Metrotech 480 power switches. By using those the power will be switched off when it is closed up and the two halves are back together. No chance of draining the batteries by forgetting to turn one or both units off when not in use.

I've had to click a second time to get it to load a new list of videos for the past couple weeks now.

I do not care about backgrounds. A TV, static poster or a storage shelf filled with goodies, make no difference to me.

Hi Dave, since you asked for feedback, I have two things to say:

I don't mind your screen not filling your background. Maybe try an asymmetrical layout though, i.e. move the screen over to the right side of the frame (from the viewer's point of view). That will then allow you to just scoot over slightly to the left on your chair to discuss the lab shown on it, rather than the awkward standing pose you've employed today. And frankly, the gaming cabinet might be nerdy, but it's way less interesting than the stuff that might be sitting on your shelf.

Second thing, you're probably aware of it, the lighting is still way off. Your captioning says your squinting, i.e. it's too bright from where you're sitting, but it's too dark from my PoV. I'm sure you'll have it figured out soon enough, lighting has always been something you've done so well.

Aside from that, I have one wish: replace those puke green mats with some new blue or gray ones. I know they were different when you bought them, I watched all of that. But they frankly look disgusting now. Replace them. Do it now.

Btw, do they still have the same electrical properties as they did when they were new?

Metrotech Model 480 Pipe & Cable Locator
10:35 interesting to know if one can build a better mousetrap?  let's perl open the kinder surprise.

OPOLAR or what ever name you give it,
so predictable how the same handheld multi-purpose air duster design pop up on so many sites. aliexpress .
IMO working with the KOTTO soldering fume extractor 16:10 you could eliminate dust from the lab 31:00 at the same time.
I can see how with very little work the same cordless air duster design 31:43 can be adapted to be a solder sucker design
by using the fan air input & adding a solder trap with a wireless foot switch. to complete the design.

Edsyn was pretty excited about the "review" so they're giving 20% off two models.
Quote
EDSYN's back story was recently featured in a vibrant review by EEVblog and to celebrate - we are giving you 20% off both the DS017 and the DS017LS.

Almost 60 years ago, Bill Fortune launched an industry revolution when he saw the need for something that would remove solder quickly and efficiently.  His concept became a reality and he began manufacturing his patented design in 1961 at our factory in California - where it continues to made to this day.

Its a good thing Edsyn didn't send you that heap of crap hot air station they sent to Rossman. Soldapult is definitely a good product, worth the $20.

Shouldn't the active carbon filter be placed after the HEPA filter, like the configuration on most air purifiers (for instance Blueair)?

Or are the requirements different for solder fumes???

Usually should do this yes. Not going to be massive difference, maybe the carbon filter will prematurely clog.

Hi
Is this KOTTO good enough as your main solder smoke extractor? Have you worked some more with it Dave, and still happy with it?
I was considering the Kingsom KS-180 HEPA shown in one of Dave's other videos however I can't see where to get filters for it on aliexpress.
The KOTTO however sells them on amazon.

Google has a long history of accidents like changing settings which mean a lot of data the user didn't want to share is sent their way. It's remarkable how often these accidents occur and always seem to point in te same direction.

Hmm, the Amazon version does not seem to include the HEPA filter.

Hi Bud
Yeah notice that myself, you need to buy them on the side, was just wondering if they fit it then or it is a special version that has the hepa filters in.
