any *cheap* miniPCIe-quad-serial?
« on: March 17, 2022, 01:48:20 pm »
For a crazy project I need two miniPCIe-quad-serial modules with
- RS232 interface
- FIFO >=64 byte
- >= 200Kbit/s per line
- asynchronous full duplex
- Linux kernel compatibility with UART { 16C450, 16C550, 16C650, ... }
- not too long form factor, say with the same form factor of a miniPCIe wifi module

Isn't there anything cheaper? say 30 Euro/module?

edit:
yup, I am going to play with eight serial lines. Too long story, crazy project, I know, I know  ;D

maybe you can use a networked 8x serial port server like this one:

It's interesting, but I need the two miniPCIe cards connected to SBC.

60EUR/module seems very reasonable for something that needs an FPGA.

Which FPGA? maybe, you mean those modules have an FPGA on the B side of the PCB ... I haven't checked what they use. I know the PCI-e one chip solution OXFORD OXPCIe954 uses a big ASIC chip and provides four 4 inexpedient serial 16C950 channels. It's is more expensive, 76.85 UKP + 10.92 UKP postage from United Kingdom.

Years ago I bought a couple of "miniPCI" (parallel bus) modules because they were 60% off.  They work fine on an embedded MIPS router, but they have some quirks.

Never mind, 5 minutes ago I found a lot of second hand stuff, which includes two miniPCIe quad serial for 70 euro shipped and I bought it.

I am going to sell my old equipment to increase the budget for this project  :D
