Orange Pi 3G-IoT-A, need connect a cheap screen via MIPI.
« on: July 25, 2024, 07:31:04 am »
Need information about compatible and cheap LCD. The displays from Raspberry (MIPI, based on TC358762XBG) and from the phone (based on MT6582) do not work. The display clock is 200 MHz. I see data flow to LCD from Orange.

Did you notice the "At present, the Linux system do not support modem and LCD screen" in the Orange Pi Wiki?  You need to use Android image for the LCD output to work; the standard Linux image won't do for you.

For displays, my go-to would be to check out the EastRising/BuyDisplay IPS TFTs with MIPI interface, and check for compatibility (via the display panel controller specs; their datasheets are included in the product pages). However, there are none of those corresponding to the default Orange Pi 3G-IoT-A display resolution, FWVGA = 854×480, although 5" 480×854 using ST7701 should work if you had a 40-pin to 24-pin FPC adapter with a suitable pinout.

It seems your best bet is to find an official Orange Pi 3G IoT display (which also uses ST7701/ST7701S controller): orangepi.com/orangepi.org.

I know about the lack of screen support in Linux, I planned to use Android, there is also a source code for it. The original screen is not available on Aliexpress. It is good that the ST7701 chip is known, but in 854x480 screens the chip is unknown, moreover, not every phone with such a screen has a diagram to make the correct soldering. In addition, the display that I checked has LCD_ID1,2,3 - that is, the chips can be different. I even think that my screen is suitable, it's just that the LCD_ID on the Orange PI board is fixed for a single type of display. One way or another, I need to run the screen on this Orange. 854x480 screens from phones are very cheap, I can't even believe that no one could connect. An expensive screen does not make sense for this board.
