Oh, Coolrunners!  XC3A !  That hurts!

I'll have to seek for a program-and-forget alternative
outside of Xilinx, eh, AMD.
OTOH that creates paid work for a consultant.

Hmm, Atmel/Microchip seem to still have a pulse on their partial coverage parts ? (tho somewhat stealth marketed !)

Let's see at Microchip: (Low power 1.8V / 3.3V CPLDs so can replace a few XC2Cxx CPLD )

There was a ATF1504BE-44 - not sure the status on that ?

Maybe ATF1508ASVL can be used if MHz is not critical.

Darn. Those 5V-tolerant XC95*XL will be hard to replace for the hobbyist/retrocomputing crowd :-(

might have to do a bulk buy of glitch chips. 

They initially fell in price due to the newly discovered RGH v3.0 exploit, which no longer required the use of the glitch chip to hack the Xbox360 gaming console.

But now with the chips EOL, they could well skyrocket in price!

Lots of hobby and open-source retro projects are going to die with the loss of the XC9500XLs, without question. But the bean-counters at AMD jacked up the cost of those parts by 3-4x last year, so they've not been a sensible choice for any project started recently. A low-end FPGA is a lot cheaper, even with the cost of some 3v3/5v level shifters.

Efinix do their T20 FPGA in a 100-pin QFP with 16Mbit of flash and 100K of block ram for £6.40, add maybe £2 for level shifters. An XC95144XL-7 in the same package costs £25.

I have a couple of XC9500XL based designs that are too far along to scrap, I'll probably finish them and do a limited run using stockpiled CPLDs. But everything going forward is FPGA based.

They are from the links you posted, thanks! But likely harder to use, as they will need a 1.8V supply where the XC9500XL could run from 3V3.

Now the question is the software support. ISE 14.7 needed an old operating system, but was available for free and mostly worked. Do you know if the SW stack for those isp4000 is free (as in beer) and of decent quality? As one of those hobbyist missing the XC9500XL, I have only ever used the Xilinx toolchain(s) :-/

EDIT: and will need a compatible programmer as well...

Seems like the NON 'E (1'st link) is 3v3

Possibly, but Lattice charge $600 per year for the software tools for those chips so they're not really suitable for hobby or low volume projects.

Not unexpected after AMD bought them. Or when Intel bought Altera.
It was completely foreseen that both these companies will be mismanaged into the ground.

The Atmel ATF150xASVL parts can manage 3v / 5V but are not high speed parts.

That’s why I went straight to the source, which I quoted exactly.
If microchip still have the process active, it’s a run volume question.

Philips XPLA3 is pin compatible to Altera MAX 7000/3000 Series, including JTAG. So it can also migrate to Atmel ATF1500.

You mean the Xilinx/AMD Coolrunner XPLA3 line XCR3032XL, XCR3064XL, etc which Xilinx bought from Philips back in 1999 ?
This series appears to be more or less compatible to the Altera MAX 3000 series in terms of size and basic functionality.
It is also listed in the discontinue document cited in post #1.

I've never used XPLA3 tho, so my knowledge stops there. No idea how one designs for or programs for the part.
Myself, I use QuartusII 13.0sp1 to design for Altera/Intel EPM7K/3K parts series and then use Atmel/Microchip POD2JED tool to retarget to the ATF15xx series.
