Any suggestion for DNS server
« on: May 02, 2020, 02:18:22 am »
My ISP is Comcast and their DNS is slow as hell most of the time.  I don't want to use Google's DNS - they are fast but I rather browse the net without feeling I am being followed.

Do you have a DNS suggestion for everyday use?

Last time I checked, OpenDNS, Cloudflare and Quad9 were all rated pretty good.

I use the Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 DNS for IPv4 and IPv6.

You could also run you own origin server, e.g. named configured appropriately, but you need nous with setting up one.

I used to do that, back in the Windows NT days.  May be it is fun to try again.  Since web page are so much richer (but mostly junks) these days, I could cut down some of the junk it tries to load.

A RasPI w. Pihole DNS - Is super usefull.
Blocks a kazillion hits , especially from the Android devices.

I run Pihole on a Debian VM though, as i already have the ESXi server up.
I use my existing Linux boxes (Bind9) , as Pihole DNS forwarders.

Pihole & Bind9  - on same box  - Here
