Best VPN/ troubleshooting for someone in mainland China?
« on: January 05, 2024, 02:50:19 pm »
Hello there, if this topic has already been addressed I apologize, but I couldn't find any information regarding this topic lately. I have been able to successfully torrent the game onto my laptop but I am having trouble downloading it once I open the game launcher. I usually get to around 30-40% before it slows down and I am unable to fully download after that.

I currently use Astrill VPN to be able to use Facebook, Instagram, Google and the other sites I use back home in the US. If it's a problem with VPN, should I switch to another?

You might do better to buy access to an ssh server outside China, ssh traffic is perhaps less likely for evil censors to block, as it is really critical to loads of business use cases. ssh in to the server with an x enabled session, open a browser on it and browse like that?

"back home in the US"
If you have a home in the US you might even set up a server at your US home which you can ssh to when in China.

vpn  can be detected on their adress ranges being used and thoses repeatly used,   they can drop the speed or nag you in some ways ... if you sniff out lot of bandwith ...

some people i know rotate their origin locations, trying to play hide and seek, some locations are not prone to "torrent"  you will see lots of speed dropping and failures until you select some good countries ...

Using a VPN can sometimes be tricky when you're in a place like mainland China. It can slow down your internet and make downloading big files or visiting certain websites tough.

From what I've tried, these anonymous proxies can be a better option for downloading games or getting to blocked websites. They tend to provide faster and more reliable internet connections than VPNs, which can be slow and unreliable.

One choice is using an individual IPv4 proxy from proxys.io, which I found helpful. These proxies give you a more direct way to the internet, avoiding some problems with VPNs. They're also less likely to get noticed by websites and services, making them a good choice for places like China.

I've heard about plenty of people getting arrested for using a VPN from within mainland China.
