yeah if vulcans show up there would be someone to tell us that they have gone mad with data and analytics. The applications of technology they are finding are off putting to say the least.
I always think back to moores law being applied to other things. Just because you can get more transistors in a digital circuit does not mean other technologies (or applications) will follow even close to the same curve. They literally have gullible customers that think 'all tech' can progress the same rate, and its ridiculous, you just get fake progress that is priced the same as real progress. The initial prices were based on the key thing, not the stupid addons. There is a core thing that is difficult to develop that is under the technology for most products. Even games, look at chess, it has been basically unchanged for 500 years because no one developed better mechanics yet. Video games kind of feel the same, they just dress up the same thing more fancy, and act like its new, but its not, because someone would have to invent a new thoughtful thing, not a generic improvement. Most of the new features are just self serving for the company (data) and do zero for the customer (who is hyped to hell thinking there are improvements when there are none). The big changes probably come from some guy that has been thinking about system dynamics for 50 years, not a corporate brain storm that says we need something for next quarter.
I had this problem at work, I finally got resources to handle a problem, and then I spent alot of time on that. I got asked many times if I need more resources and the answer is no, I need to solve the problem intelligently by using more time and learning more. I really knew that just throwing more stuff at it is gonna turn into a useless and confusing 'sprawl' that will implode. And it worked out OK, I got my stuff solved, and because I spent more time on fine tuning, I actually saw more interesting problems that show up. And things got defined properly. It was somewhat a boring struggle at times, but thats just how it has to be. Those boring parts needed to be developed and solved because they turn into massive weak points that can make a more complex thing fail and become too confusing and temperamental to troubleshoot because of all the unknowns.
