I have already read some stuff about this, my question as can be read in the OP was ideally about hands-on personal experience and opinion, not just Wikipedia and random blogs.
As the question of long-term storage is a recurring topic, I thought that could be an interesting option to discuss.
As I often say, of course my prefered method is data replication - replicate on a regular basis, don't count on any media for long-term storage - but as a complementary option, having reasonably guaranteed long-term storage media is also interesting.
Replicating works well while you're actively replicating your data. But if you fail to do so for any reason - could be personal circumstances, health, or whatever - then a long-term copy could still be a nice to have.
