100% of telemetry removal is achievable ... well, 99%, because as fast as we plug one hole, MS opens another (with an update). But, with all the smart folks out there working the telemetry thing over, I was able to turn off telemetry on PRO & ENTERPRISE versions. Simple googling found the items that needed cfg. Hit something "greyed out" in windows? Get around it in Powershell.
I don't mess with HOME, as that is for the masses ... but probably easy to do there as well.
Done.
Start menu ... one freeware app, and the start menu is mine again, with no problems under Win10 or Win11.
Done.
MS Store, Cloud/subscription, $$$ apps ... all easily turned off, avoided, and replaced with free apps of comparable quality.
Done.
Don't want updates of any kind, at any time? Turn them off, and scan on your own schedule.
Done.
Same with linux ... a bit of work, and the OS is back to being mine. Github is your friend, along with various websites where smart folks work this magic, depending on your problem.
I don't fault MS for doing what they do, as they have to handhold for the masses ... I don't mind the heavy-handed marketing, because that can be avoided as well.
I used to worry that I couldn't do things the way I wanted with each version of an OS, from DOS onward, but I've come to realize that there are just as many smart folks on the opposite side, and something MS has done for the masses can be worked around for those with the ability to do some digging.
A new OS, with another twist in the way of doing something? Just another brief challenge, usually defeated before I even became aware of the problem.
