HDD LED (act) not working in HP Elitedesk 800 G5
(1/1)
max-bit:
Patient Elitedesk 800 G5 (mini Dekstop)
That is, the smallest ones
And everything is OK, except for one little thing called this problem
HDD LED DOES NOT WORK
This means that the diode itself is working (lit), checked, but it doesn't even blink.
And now a few questions
1. The question stupidest why?
1A - Could it be a hardware fault (honestly, it's the first time I've encountered such a thing)
1B if 1A - where is this diode powered from? KBC Mostek? The chipset is Q370 but I haven't found a datasheet with the pinout)
2. Is it maybe software?
3. BIOS version fault? (although I downloaded the predecessor and nothing)
4. This guy is like that.
I would definitely like to know where this diode is controlled from :) if someone accidentally found the Q370 datasheet
Halcyon:
Is the hard disk plugged into anything other than the on-board SATA connector (i.e.: An expansion card)?
If so, hard disk activity is not likely to be indicated at all.
AndyBeez:
@Halcyon agreed.
Also, is this a hard drive or a solid state drive? Given the HDD light just shows 'time bus busy', it may be operating too fast to light the relatively laggy LED. Connect a scope to the LED line to see if 'disk activity' is realy happening. Otherwise, suspect the OS. Or try another LED.
rdl:
If this is one of those HP mini PCs there is really no room for any kind of standard expansion card. The connectors they use to the drive have always seemed tiny and fragile to me, so you might check that. Maybe just wiggle or re-seat it. Heck, drives are so cheap these days maybe just try a new one. I have a similar computer and I don't think I've seen the LED activity indicator light up either, though I've never actually looked for it. Next time I have to reboot it I will. One thing to note, the power LED is so dim that it is barely visible in the daytime. Maybe the HDD indicator is similar?
