I use USB tree view from here https://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtreeview_e.html which shows all the USB devices and can highlight the device/port when something changes.

I used that in the past but form memory it does not have a log, or does it?
(I don't want to install more stuff unless strictly necessary given all those issues)
I can see what is plugged in and out using even Win Device Manager, but I would like a full log.

Windows has a built in event logger, I don't recall whether it records USB enumeration events though.

I've used USBDeview in the past when tackling USB device problems. I have no idea if it will log connections/disconnections, but I thought i'd mention it as a tool for debugging USB related stuff, which you may find helpful/useful.

Wireshark allows you to log events to USB but I have never used that feature and I don't know how useful it is.

I get those kinds of spurious messages too sometimes.
