Keyboard blocking boot

My home desktop a couple of days ago got stuck at the boot 'splashscreen'.
After a few tests it seems the cause was the keyboard (an old IBM keyboard with extra function keys and integrated USB hub).
I replaced it with another one, same model, and everything went fine.
BTW, if I let the computer boot without keyboard and plug it afterwards when the computer has finished booting, keyboard seemed to be functional.

Now I'd be curious what could be the issue with the keyboard, and whether it could be fixed.
Perhaps something with the power supply?

Some key is permanently "pressed", probably contaminanted or damaged.
Try a keyboard tester, like:

bad usb devices can prevent a computer to boot, not always keyboard. I've seen usb hubs doing the same. it's usb chip is dead that's all.

Yeah, but as I wrote, if I plug the keyboard after the booting has completed, there is no problem,
keyboard is functional and no key looks stuck in a 'pressed state'

Oh, and the mouse that's connected to the keyboard 'hub' port is functional as well
