iPhone X Not Alerting About New Emails

I'm uncertain if asking an iPhone question on this site is appropriate, so I apologize in advance.

My iPhone X decided to stop alerting me about new emails. Previously it would show a preview of the email when the phone was locked, it would play a sound, and also play a sound when new emails arrived while using it.

Suddenly (maybe after an update), it stopped doing this. It still receives email, but only shows the number of unread emails on the email app icon without alerting me.

I've checked all the notification settings, notification settings in the mail app, all three banners are turned on, reset the phone, and performed the following because I believe I performed these steps one time when the same issue occurred: turned off email notifications, turned off the phone, turned on the phone, and turned on notification settings.

Also, I have the latest update (a recent update maybe last week didn't resolve this issue).

Has anyone else had this issue and/or know how to resolve it? One article states to delete the mail app and reinstall it, but I'm reluctant to perform that due to possibly losing my emails along with spending a great deal of time resetting my email stuff. Resetting the phone to factory also seems like a risky step, so I'm against this step as well.
