I recently installed two instances of Win 11 25H2, made sure there was no live network connection and didn't have a problem.

I'm not sure if MS will ever decide to totally block a non-net connected install, but who known what goes on in marketing's head.

Completely untrue. I do. Your statement is a much too-often repeated canard.
Not that I don't know about all the limitations and outrages therein. But all things considered, between the 3 main choices--Micro$oft, Apple or some flavor of *nix, I choose Windoze.
I hasten to add that I'm referring to the older versions of Windoze (like 7) that I prefer, not the "AI"-powered direction that future versions are headed in. Fuck that shit!

But when I talk in real life with people who are complaining about windows, they always tell me they can't change,
either because they need some particulier piece of software or their boss don't let them.

- OS familiarity (worth a lot of money once you are older than about 21, or are not paid for wasting time )
- applications (priceless, if you need them)
- data interchange with other people using it and its applications

I've not had a "boss" since 1975...

I wonder if win10 will get the same Simplix update route as win7 has had (and still has) by accessing the M$ paid contract user update server?

A bad argument, if that was in opposition to what Karel said. All three are examples of being forced to use Windows.

Nobody (unless the boss says so) is "forced" to use windows.

For example I have just set up a win11 machine running debian 13 in a vmware vm. Why? Because somebody is writing code for debian... Why win11 host? Because win11 came with the (secondhand Lenovo) machine on Ebay, and I know how to set it up.

If I was starting from nothing, I would not choose linux. I come from asm, cp/m, dos etc background, so I am well familiar with command line ops, but linux is just pointlessly weird. Give me win7-64 anytime.

What a pointless post, fails my first rule of life, "Don't be a dick".

I've used many different OS's over the last 4 decades, both big and small, run a heap of Linux machines, VM's and containers, maintain a heap of corporate Windows servers and still use Win 11 for my 4 off desktops, have hobby microcontroller\electronic projects and succeed in what I want to do (eventually) and of course as I'm paid by the "man" I'm obviously a corporate shill.

Just use what you want to use and don't get bent out of shape trying to force others in to your "one true world".

Recently the work laptop was migrated from Win10 to Win11.  Definitionally feels more sluggish to me.
But, that might be all the security bloatware   that's installed.   Its the same bloatware as what was on Win10

My not extended 4GB 32bit W10 Pro HP 6000 Pro SFF is much slicker now.
(did I already say it's Pro)
It still can't do more than 4GB, but compatibility telemetry is gone and Defender is not defending every click, disk also goes silent before indefinitely.
