modern "modular" psu connectors
« on: December 21, 2019, 04:12:46 pm »
I am building my own-PSU unit for a crazy project and I'd like to have these "modular" connectors on it.

I don't know where to find these parts, except from a damaged PSU  :-//

I need something that can be easily inserted/removed on demand. Wires need to carry 12V at 2A, and each cable only needs to carry two wires { 12V, GND }, but I need six of these cables, hence I need six of these "modular" connectors.

this is the PSU I was talking about. Its box and wiring still needs to be completed.
The two big holes are for these connectors.

One of these connectors will carry the energy to a power distribution box, where I will install six Mini-Fit Jr connectors, and each Mini-Fit Jr connector will have its dedicated wire for a load.

The max current is between 1.1A and 1.5A.
The total current provided by the PSU is 5A (the sum of all the loads' currents).
The min current in the lightes load is 100mA.

They are "light loads" when compared to a modern computer, where a single wire can carry more than 5A.

Will both plugs carry the same voltages? If not, it might be better to use different pinouts, so you can't accidentally swap the two connections.

Also, wouldn't it be preferable to mount the female connectors in the PSU, so you can't short out the pins by accident? Might not be too critical though, as the PSU probably can handle a shorted output.
