PC SECURITY ON THE NET
« on: July 23, 2023, 11:03:17 pm »
Hi there!! Re:PC Virus, only on when on the Net.
I have an ASUS I5 Laptop, First Generation, and it has
a LOT of Antivirus Adds on the right side - only when
I'm on the Net!! I Deleted any unknown Files in Control
Panel, and whilst I'm NOT on the Net - it's fine!!

Although, now it 'Crashes', all the time now, and say
'Attempt to Write to ROM', error.
The PC is basically, unusable now, and can give a
Blue Screen - with a 0-100% upload to Microsoft,
Countdown timer - not the old style Blu-Screen.
What shall I do, I've updated my Antivirus, and
done a Full-Scan, and it came up Clear.

Thanks Simon.

You didn't say what you want/need.  If you are looking for help...

Do you have the factory install disk?  Cleanest and probably best results would be just to reload the darn thing with the factory install disk.  Some ASUS model has a hidden restore partition with the factory software recovery in that partition.  ASUS support site may have instructions and user manual for your model as well as "how to restore" info.  You could get some help on how to reload the factory software for your model there.

boot your lappy  with specially crafted antivirus disks from known  brands, and do a scan,

some files could even be locked by a running windows ...  thats why doing it externally with a cd rom or bootable usb   could help and zap  the problem(s)

if not a full re install may help

unless you have one  hidden in the cmos ??? or hdd mbr sectors ??

To avoid it happening in future, install Linux as your OS then have a virtual machine running Windows specifically for any programs you need which are Windows only and can't un under Wine. If the VM gets infected you can always delete it, or roll it back to an older version. And the VM probably would never need to go online anyway. This setup also protects you against M$ messing up your system with a feature update of dubious quality.
