Plantronics Calisto 610 USB speakerphone - need longer USB cable
« on: December 04, 2024, 11:24:35 pm »
Hi:

I have a Plantronics Calisto 610 USB speaker cable I depend on connected to my PC. However, the USB cable Plantronics (later Polycom, now acquired by HP") is terribly short.

I would just replace it, but it seems to have something like a ferrite inline. Is this a ferrite? Can I just replace this cable with any similar USB cable with a ferrite, or does the ferrite have to be identical in size/electrical characteristics etc?

Thanks.

Could you not just use a USB extension cable?

Did you read my question, in which I asked if that would work properly or if I needed one similar to the one I have?

They answered the question fine.

Grab another cable and try it out, see if it works. If you google search the model number, you'll see many photos without the ferrite being used, so most likely it will be fine. Maybe you'll get a slight increase in noise.

Once you reach a certain point with USB cables (3m+), certain products will randomly stop working, and you'll have to go active.

No. I decided to blindly reply with something completely irrelevant.  ::)

Yes of course I read your question. I'm just wondering why you're deciding to do things the hard way. But to answer your specific question: It depends. Try it and find out. You might try with a long extension cable, and if that works, then you're probably alright.
