Reference of a good KVM?
« on: September 05, 2022, 11:31:02 pm »
Looking for a good KVM here, capable of doing HDMI and ideally Displayport as well. For two computers at least, ideally 3.
Thanks ;D

HDMI and USB switches are really cheap, make sure to get one that supports at least HDMI 2.0 to be a bit more futureproof.

The ones with DP are less common though.

I bought VGA-KVMs, HDMI-KVMs and VGA active-splitters. All Great products.
Especially, the switch-matrix for VGA signals is the best I have ever seen.
HDMI and DP have digital signals but with larger bandwidth.

Second hand on eBay?

Yesterday an idiot threw a bicycle crank-set with a *big 53 steel teeth ring* into the box without *any* protection and you can imagine the result ... thank god nothing broken, but the aluminum is all full of deep scratches.

150 Euros for something that should be * brand new in perfect cosmetic condition * arrived as if it survived WWII  :o :o :o

WTF? well, eBay is not bad per se, just some sellers should have to be banned for life.

However, buying a couple of second-hand Lindy systems was luckier.

Maybe you (I wish you) can be even luckier  :D

As budget is not mentioned, I would suggest EV3895
On top of these requirements, you will get non 4K ultra-wide monitor   ;D

Another option is to use a virtual KVM like Synergy. The only catch is that you'd need a display with dual inputs and manually switch between the screens.

I just bought this kvm from AliExpress for $12 after rebates:
https://a.aliexpress.com/_EylWE6h. But it's only HDMI and for 2 computers but it supports QHD and  70hz and worked like a charm! I'm not sure about HDMI version, though.

I bought a TESmart 4 computer by 2 DisplayPort KVM back in 2020 when it was clear that we'd be working remotely for a long time. (It is ASIN B08N4QZ29K.)

I would say that I'm almost entirely satisfied with it. The one area of dissatisfaction is perhaps twice a month, I have to powercycle it to get it to talk over USB to my Macbook Pro. I think this is very likely a problem with the USB-C to USB-A adapter that I'm using, because it doesn't affect either of the desktop computers that I have connected to it. (I have, however, tried three different cheap USB-C to USB-A hubs and they all do the same thing, so I don't know if it the KVM, the laptop, the adapters, or something else.)

Other than that, no complaints whatsoever, and it does 4K, dual DP, and hotkey switching perfectly for me. When I bought it, it was $220. It's now $420, which sucks, but I'd consider it even at that price.

Also worth noting that I think most (all?) DisplayPorts are capable of outputting to HDMI 2.0 (but not vice-versa), so you might consider the route of switching in the HDMI realm and converting DP sources to HDMI.

Ctrl-Ctrl-2 to switch to computer 2.
Ctrl-Ctrl-1 to switch to computer 1.

Currently in my office we use lots of Starview KVM ( DP, DVI 2x 4x ECT)

We also have Trendnet TK-240DP  (available in 4 port) and it also works well.

We have tired the secure Belkin F1DN202KVM-UN-3 ( Gen 1) And it was horrible with monitor reboots required and usb issues.

I am looking for a KVM too but I don't seem to find one that fit my need. I need to switch 2 computers. I have 2 monitors with DVI the keyboard is PS/2 and the mouse is USB.

Dual DVI and combining USB + PS/2 are both rare, never mind the intersection of those two sets. Could you compromise by either using VGA/DVI-A or converting PS/2 to USB with a passive or active converter? Probably if you can find anything that works, it will be discontinued since no mainstream computer ships with PS/2 and DVI anymore.
