Slackware 15 finally tagged to release...
« on: January 13, 2022, 02:46:25 pm »
After a long period of chaos and mess produced by
the POTTERIX goonies including everything into an insane daemon...
from resolvers to home user baby sitter to file system watchers...  ::)

A true SAFE *NIX like  stable and reliable distro comes ahead..

https://distrowatch.com/?newsid=11447

Hopefully the good days of reliable and controllable system are back.

Looking forward to it although already checked the RC just fine.

Mine as well. Bought a 4-CD and a 6-CD set from Walnut Creek - imported to Brasil back in 1994 or 1995. Good times.

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

Me too.. circa 93

Patrick  Volker.  made a good money with those CDs...
back in the day a modem would need weeks to download a full CD...

I still have them.. from 93 and some others..
box with printed manuals...

The good days are not behind us..
Just checked the new RC release and it is still
the best thing put together around...

Safe sane smart and with all the best practices

Some ten years ago when I was doing Gigabit Ethernet development and tests, Slackware saved me. The only test machine I had available was a Pentium III 500MHz severely underpowered for the task if running Windows XP. I then nuked everything and installed a barebones Slackware without a GUI and then got around 700~750Mbps with it. Good times.

As of TODAY...  Slackware is OFFICIALLY declared stable...

http://www.slackware.com/changelog/current.php?cpu=x86_64

As usual a solid rock release (for a long time now..)
Available in 64 or a much smaller footprint 32 bits as well..

Changes most notably affecting users...
- PAM replacing shadow
- The lame PulseAudio alternative PipeWire.
- QT5
- RUST .. nobody will escape that  ::)

and a lot more..

Considering the whole new make_world from scratch build myself...

The usual good *NIX practices from P.Volk.
he never missed the critical point..
