The BENCH service desktop session will start a pattern generator..
which can be attached in any monitor under service on the bench.
MultiHead support allowed me to use that with a single session...
Also written in PERL::Gtk - very simple efficient solution
The OFF button will switch OFF the proper output managed by xrandr

They helped me to service some hires SVGA monitors ..
Although today HDMI panels are less "adjustable" they still serve me sometimes..
