Thunderbird 102.0
« on: July 02, 2022, 08:19:41 pm »
Just upgraded yesterday. Newsgroups don't work anymore. (The content of posts doesn't get displayed anymore, but TB does connect to the newsgroup server.)
Anyone else affected by this?  That's the first time in years that I've experienced a problem with TB.

OK, it's apparently this: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1777439

Should be fixed in 102.0.2.  ::)

I only use TB while on trips. TB uses IMAP (to keep a backup on the server). In the office the mail system uses POP/SNTP (and dedicated backup system).

I have been using it for years and generally prefer it over other FOSS email clients. Currently, I have a need to access email from an Exchange server, so I'm using Evolution. I prefer TB and would much rather use it, but Exchange email is not a built-in capibility. There are a couple of available addons, but they require periodic subscription payments.

Sorry, I don't do paid by subscription software unless absolutely necessary. (A rule that has the side effect of shedding MS Office from my computer. Darn.  ::) )

Have been using it for years and I can't see what's not to like really. (Except for this recent bug, that admittedly got fixed quickly.) It's fine and the almost only decent, standalone email client out there that is not Outlook.

The only thing I find a bit annoying is that despite years of evolution, it still needs some extensions for basic things such as re-ordering accounts and folders, which to me looks like a very basic feature to support. But hey, the extension works...
