Upgrading NVMe (Z Turbo) SSD on a HP Z440 workstation.
« on: January 14, 2025, 10:32:30 pm »
Hi,

can anybody list some good websites to refer to when selecting my new SSD drive for this HP system. The current SSD is a 256GB, Samsung SM951 NVMe, and I'm looking to upgrade it to either the 512GB or 1TB variant.

The Crucial/Micron system scanner doesn't work, as this is not a mainstream computer.

Here are some more technical details on my current drive setup:

P/N:     MZVPV256HDGL-000H1
Model:     MZ-VPV2560
HP P/N:     801075-002

Standard:     NVM Express 1.0/1.1 ??

HP Z Turbo Drive (G2)
PCIe 3.0 x 4

MSIP-REM-SEC-MZ-HPV2560  (not sure what this number means !)

It would be great if I could find an NMVe that's a qualified part (on the AML list), if not, something compatible & reliable would do.
Any advice?

Any standard NVMe SSD should work.

Yes, there should be no limit in size, and PCIe3 is likely the best you could have, so unfortunately no super fast "modern" ones (at least there are no major speed benefits when using them).
The 951 is an OEM model, with no end user support (though HP, Dell etc. might roll out patches themselves); for the newer SSD I suggest to go with an "official" part, with customer support. Anything from a major brand will be fine.
