Scored a pair of Fluke 789's with probes and one hangar for $150 total.  I had a choice between one brand new meter or two grungy ones for the same price.  I went with the grungy ones figuring it'd be nice to have a pair for coordinated tests.  It took a lot of elbow grease and Goo Gone, but they cleaned up nicely.

I had a chance to compare them against the new one with several voltages and resistances and they were dead on.  They're also dead on relative to my HP 3478A.  I'm very happy!

Nice job with both the price and the cleanup. Maybe get some plastic polish on those screens and you'll be golden.

Very nice price.
We use to have one of those on the production floor at Loral.
Everyone had analogue meters, whenever we had a transmitter that was margional on power it was time to go grab the GOD BOX (HP 436 with the high poiwer sensor) and see how marginal said transmitter really was in terms of power out.

Yes, its in astonishingly good condition, the sensor doesn't have a mark on it, neither does the meter. Its as if it was bought for some project and never used.

Usually 2nd hand sensors are scuffed from all the use, but not this one. And the meter has no use marks from having its buttons pushed. You usually get a shiny halo around a button after years of use, but not this one.

I haven't opened the meter yet to check inside, but I will soon :)

I've tested it up to 3Ghz so far and its spot on too.  :-+

eBay has served as a critical springboard for my businesses transition into electronics. "Scores" are not just fun, but they give someone like me access to capabilities that would otherwise be out of my reach financially.

I design power electronics. Multi-channel, multi-voltage, in/out monitoring, etc. What was needed was a way to test the rather complicated PCB's after they are built. I found an awesome Keithley 2700 which is a typical high-performance 6.5 digit DMM but with to option ports in the back. I added a 20 channel multplexer to it so that I can automate 20 measurements with LabView controlling it. Amazing little box. I can even add another card for a total of 42 input channels. Each channel can be R, I, or V.

Next up is the Chroma 8 channel DC electronic load. This is a beauty for me. My power designs are setup to supply many loads that have very different characteristics. Connecting this to LabView, I can simulate all kinds of terrible scenarios as part of the design validation. For production, it allows me to connect every output of my system and do automated load tests. These units can be rather high-speed and simulate inrush currents. Not quite as fancy as the newest models, but FAR less money - like 95% less than new.

How much did you score the 33120a for? I've been keeping an eye out for one of them or even the 33220a for my bench.

Well after the refund it was $155.00 USD shipped, and it has the external ref in/out option. So it will be a great deal if new ram fixes it, if it doesn't then not so much...

Sweet success!
Swapped out U404 and U405 and the 33120A is working perfectly. It was another 15 dollars for the new ram including shipping, not too bad at all. The 33120A is in great shape with the ref in/out, bumpers and handle.

For anyone who happens to use the search in the future I had failure 603 and 608, replacement ram was easy to get from Digikey - part # CY7C199CNL-15VXI

The seller accepted an $18 lowball bid on this Keithley 175. I'm looking forward to my first Keithly (been all Fluke to this point) and first meter with an LCD readout.

Perturb and observe.

I scored a Keysight branded 33210A function generator for a little over Euro 300.
This one is brand new, was listed as probably defect, showed only a bad picture in the listing.

Just unpacked it and it works perfectly and looks as if it is brand new.
List price in Germany is almost Euro 1400 incl. VAT

Only one problem: It does not have a serial number sticker at the back, so I can probably not send it out for calibration. Hmmm.
So, once in a while there are good deals around.

No, the utility menu was not helpful. But the I/O library was...

Just hooking it up to Keysight Connection Expert, reveals the serial number without any effort
It is listed as Serial Number SG48000515
It was originally calibrated on 2/11/2015
And warranty was activated on 7/20/2015 and is good to 2/4/2018
The calibration certificate can be downloaded from the keysight website

So, why would someone list this as "defect' and is willing to let it go for such a low price.
And why is the serial number sticker missing?

Stolen equipment ?
Hmm, that thought has crossed my mind.
Not a good thought.
But how to find out, if I even want to find out?

But how to find out, if I even want to find out?

Just give it to the cops when, if they will, knock at your door. ;) ;) ;)

If not, why worry?

It is a good thing to worry, yes.
Because, if you bought a stolen equipment, you are helping the criminals, helping this kind of thing happening.
Imagine a scenario, if no one would bought a stolen piece, for what I will stolen (only If I could make some use)...

But on other hand, it is really hard to know if the deal is right or not.

Here in my country it is very common get your stuff stolen. And if the cops knock your door, you may (MAY) go to the jail, if the price is so incompatible to the market, that you could imagine that is illegal.
In some cases like that, I like to ask to the seller some questions about the item and technical things too. Something like:
'Why are you selling this', or in this particular case, 'This genereator can make a sweep on senoidal waveform'.... somethings like that.

But now, as you already bought, let this tought alone... ;)

It is a good thing to worry, yes.

I am not worried that the police will knock on my door and that a good score turns in to a nightmare.
And I don't think there is a way that I could get punished in Germany for buying something that could have been stolen.
But there is still a bad feeling attached to the deal.

May be I can get a replacement serial sticker from Keysight, LOL!
