#1000 Video on YouTube - Proposal to Dave
« on: May 09, 2017, 06:03:06 am »
Hi Dave,
as you approach the #1000 video on YouTube, what you think about an epic video for this anniversary number?
I don't know, some special review or some special project ...  I don't know what ... maybe you have already something in your mind ... Anyway! Something with the way just you can give us ...  ;)

1024 is a much better number, if you're going to celebrate 1K videos.

I feel some pressure to do something, but it's an arbitrary number.
I did have something in mind, but it would require lots of setup and almost certainly rehearsals!

But anyway, consider this the official suggestions thread.

Build a 1 bit CPU with canned 2n2222s (TO-18) with LEDs at every gate like this one. Bonus points for dead bug style!

I would find it interesting with a retrospect and your own account of the best and the worst experiences and videos. Biggest win, greatest let down, etc.
A personal story of things you remember :)

The #1000 video should be something EEVblog is famous for. So the first thing that came to my mind was: Do an epic teardown. But that is probably impossible, because it is either too expensive or needs a lot of preparation.
I would also find it interesting going back to the early days of EEVblog. Maybe repeat something from one of the first videos, but in a more epic way, because now you have more time and more equipment you can use.
Maybe a live video, like the first one? :)

Technically don't have to do something special right at 1k, just needs to be within 5% tolerance.  :P

Some kind of really exotic tear down or tour could be cool.

It would be interesting to watch Joe and Dave reviewing the new EEvblog meter. Then if it doesn't fail, make it fail big like mythbusters would do. I've never seen a DMM blowing up.

It has been a while since Dave did one of those.  My favourite was when the SWMBO voice is heard in instructing Dave the stop talking to his Internet Friends and come inside to do some work!  No wonder we left the garage lab [emoji48]

Blooppers from the previous 999 videos

A retrospective of the EEVBlog history is what I suggest. But don't overlook when #1000 is uploaded it will still only be the 998th formally numbered EEVBlog video. Assigning high significance to #nnn video numbers can be problematic.

#666 was skipped , possibly as a concession to a significant proportion of the US audience from using that religiously sensitive number. An unusual move for an acknowledged atheist to make. But it passed largely without incident so it might have been a wise move in hindsight. People with bibles and guns need careful consideration.  I have vague recollections there were other factors at play too but it was quite some time ago, so I may be completely wrong in my memory of the time.

#741 was also skipped. Possibly that was to prevent Internet search issues with an Australian brothel in Melbourne called club741. A move which if true shows considerable foresight. If somebody accidentally clicked on the wrong link they may have been unexpectedly better informed. Or if their web browsing history on a work network was examined it may have led to awkward questions.

I'll give you a pass, and if Dave had the same reasoning, him too because neither of you live in the US, but nobody gives a shit about the number 666 here. Nobody would lose their minds, and nobody would really care. If anything it would be a joke, and people would have a laugh.

I agree with the consensus that Americans are fat, gun-slinging idiots, but give us some credit, we aren't gonna go nuts over a stupid number.

Hmm... do you have any buildings missing 13th floor where you are?  I don't...

That's different. We never went nuts over it. It's a silly superstition and it's just some small change to the floor numbering.

Heck we have a Pagan River, and a road numbered 666. I have only seen one person complain about that.
The river was named in the 17th century, and the road acquired the number a while ago.

In the past I've offered.

For 1000, I would like to see Dave do a full review of his own meter.   Maybe do it live with some help so people can ask questions during the review.   At the end of the review, announce it's release and be ready to take orders.

The original statement said that religious people in the US would get pissed over the number 666. The fact of the matter is that nobody gets pissed or even upset at the number 13 unless their brain looks like that century egg Ashens ate. The fact that we don't have 13th floors on most buildings is more tradition than anything else. If someone built a tower with a 13th floor almost anywhere in the US, nobody would notice, never mind care.

Americans don't get upset over numbers, and saying that excluding the number 13 from floor numbering is getting upset over it is just not true.

But as an idea for a 1000th video, how about you do a compilation of the weirdest, and funniest forum posts on this forum? There's got to be some good stuff here.

I don't know about #1000. Your work content is mostly improvised and bob-and-weave through whatever fell in your lap. Planning a structure based video is bound to be a let down.   :-DD

Just don't let it be a debunking episode, those I don't care for much.
