Hello all.

My name is AJ, and I am a systems administrator in Raleigh, NC, USA. Obtained my Masters in Electrical Engineering, ended up not using it as I decided that I liked my part time gig as a systems administrator for the university much more than the stuff I did in my internships/coops. So now electronics is my hobby, and I think I like it that way more as I am free to enjoy the field without being obligated to delve into its more tedious aspects ;)

Most of the time I build random microcontroller powered devices, though I have been called upon for costume rigging and some animatronics for friends on occasion.

I'm Nezih Kanbur. I'm a graphics designer mostly working on 3d animation. I love electronics as a hobby and I've been following useful hacks since celeron 300A processor but I'm mostly here for a Geforce to Quadro modification. Quadro cards have additional features on CAD software including quad buffered stereoscopy. I'll be modding my card in a few days. Thanks to eevblog. :D :-+

I'm also interested in physics, computers and playing the piano.

Although, I am member of this great forum a long time already, I guess, someone may need to know more about myself, my interests and knowledge.
I also will use that, to link to if someone asks for my background  :)
I am working on electronic project since more than 30 years, so I assume I am at least a bit experienced. My short form vita below my help to judge, where my major skills are.
Never the less I had to except my limits: "All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure." (Mark Twain).
I also accepted, ones know-how is fully wasted, if one is not willing to share. So I started to educated young people (school, university..).
Meanwhile I am member of several great forums. This in my feeling is one of the bests (not such specific like [volt-nuts].

My so far vita:
  • apprenticeship in a repair shop for radio and tv (yes, still many tube sets that time)
  • academic studies (that time member of several joined projects with IBM, Siemens and other (CAD, Process Control...)
  • several yrs. R&D engineer for customized design of high precision embedded process controllers (temp/pressure/humidity/drives...).
A quite small company, thus responsible for the complete projects: sponsorship, cost, specification, analog, digital, construction, supply, production, testing, field support.
  • 14 yrs. at a Japanese semiconductor company / starting as product specialist for analog & MCUs (4..64bits) at the end project manager for customized projects.
(in 1995 founded my own engineering consultant (in parallel) to support customer projects, having to small business case for my employer
(with full acceptance & support of my employer).
That engineering consultant still exists, but I have reduced the business to the absolutely minimum (just servicing old projects)
  • For 1 year a specific project at the criminal lab of the German feds – mainly motivated by 9/11
  • some yrs. at a big global distributors for project sales at motion control customers
  • 2005 I moved to another German state (and into a new house with much less space). Thus I was forced to reduce my equipment.
In 2007 I started to recover my bench at the reduced space. See below link for details.
  • at present I am working as global account manager (sales) at a German semiconductor supplier (motion control and automotive market).
My customers are located in Asian, USA and Europe.
My Workbench at home:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/whats-your-work-benchlab-look-like-post-some-pictures-of-your-lab/msg999581/#msg999581

Electronics is still a major part of my life.
Nevertheless there is also a life aside. My wife (I am married more than 30 year), the children (meanwhile autonomous), our friends, 2 dogs, my motorbike and last but not least our house&garden (I did also scuba diving for many years, but I have stopped)
You will learn something new every single day

Greetings Everyone,
My name is Denis. I came upon Dave and EVVblog on Youtube. I have been watching Dave's videos for a couple of months. The videos are very interesting to watch. It is fun and informative watching the teardown videos because you get to see what stuff is top quality and what stuff is garbage.

Also because of Dave's Youtube channel, I am thinking about getting myself a soldering iron and start to begin doing simple repairs on stuff like instrument cables etc(I have a few guitar leads that need the 1/4 jacks resoldering).

 :)

as most of my knowledge of electronics come from my Father a mechanical engineer / Farmer who built the family house & did ham radio as a hobby.
know about the eevblog forum from Dave's youtube Mailbag , video teardowns & the amp hour . but did not sign up till now.

Hi I'm Ian and new to the eevblog forum. I work as a freelance ICT Consultant and have just started getting back into electronics after a long break. I did electronics at college and worked on military kit in the reserves for 18 years but have never made my living out of it. I am planning to have a play in a number of areas. Model railways. I am a member of MERG Model Electronic Railway Group www.Merg.org.uk and have some kits to build. Dave might like this site if he is planning to work on his Indiana Jones railway layout. The second area I am looking at involves Raspberry Pi and surveillance cameras for watching bird boxes, bird feeders etc.

Hello all,
I have been a long time watcher of EEVblog (Dave is amazing). Lately I have been lurking the forum a lot for helpful tidbits with various issues, I figured it was time to finally join in on the fun.
I live in Florida~ I love to tinker, I'm a ham, have been getting into test equipment repair lately, as various awesome devices tend to fall into my lap from time to time. If Dave has taught me one thing from his repair bits... It's always the capacitors... unless well it's not :p

Hi, my name is George from the USA, Warren, MI to be more exact. I have watched the EEV YouTube channel for quite a while. I have some soldering skill mostly from working on cars. I want to start learning more about components and how they work. I feel like I am at the place where I know enough to get into trouble but not enough to get out. As an example, I have installed resistors to use LED's but they were supplied, so I really didn't know why they were the values they were. If I have instructions I am fine, but I don't always know why I may be doing something, and I don't like to operate that way. So hopefully I can learn some stuff around here.

 8) G'day all, I've been loving Dave's videos for a few months now (smashing the schmoo out of my work supplied data on the train  >:D ) and had been wanting to replace my not bad but not entirely trustworthy Victor 70c DMM with something decent - had been researching the Uni-T's but quickly became aware of their significant limitations (rubbish protection etc).

Anyhoo, long story short, I ordered an EEVBlog BM235 a few days ago and cant wait to get it.

Most of my electronics work involves restoring & repairing Amiga, C64 and Classic Mac computers plus the occasional bit of gadget building.

PS, I'm a Melbournian these days despite being born and raised elsewhere (no not tassie)

Hey, I'm newish.
Found this place from the youtube video on Zener diodes.
I'm a novice, but understood most of it.
Accidentally did the beginning of an Electrical Engineering course 20 years ago. But it wasn't exactly for me at the time.
So I have some knowledge of boolean logic and that IC's are made of transistors and such.
Otherwise I'm a bit of a novice.
My main interest is Metal Detecting coils, I've a bit of knowledge in that area.

Hi,

I am Andrea from Italy, I live in Piedmont, close to Alessandria.

I have a BSc in Computer Science, I have spent some years in IT, mostly as DBA, backend developer and sysadm, at present I work as IT manager, but I am pretty a newbie in EE.

My interest in EE has risen when I stopped to mock the Raspberry thing and I have started to think about to use it seriously in my job, as far as I have discovered the GPIO, the DIY world and the EE I found myself fallen in love with these fantastic worlds full of knowledge and satisfaction when you build something that simply works as expected... ...more satisfying when it works in ways you never have expected that it should be ??? It makes me feel like a little boy discovering the world for the first time  8)

I am looking forward to meet someone with whom share my just born passion, see you soon,

Andrea

Hello fellow EEVblog-ers,

My forum name raysantos is my real name Ray Santos.

My background is in software development (BS Information Systems, MS Software Engineering) and I'm teaching myself electronics as a hobby.

I'm currently reading "Getting Started in Electronics" by Forrest M. Mims III, to set the foundation for my electronics knowledge.

Next on my reading list is "Make: Electronics - Learning by Discovery" by Charles Platt. I bought the Make Electronics Components Pack 1 from Maker Shed to build Experiments 1 through 11 in Platt's book.

The most recent electronics-related project that I did was exposing the positive and negative lines from a spare USB cable to measure both the output voltage and amps of several USB charging adapters with my Extech EX410 multimeter. Two of my five USB charging adapters produced the output voltage and amps indicated on the adapter's label. The other three USB chargers produced the indicated output voltage but the amps were lower than indicated and the amp output also constantly changed. That must explain why those three USB chargers took longer to charge my mobile devices than the first two USB charger did.

I'm also interested in exploring more of the Electrical Engineering design side of the hobby but my math is a but rusty. To brush up on my math I've recently started working through the book "Engineering Mathematics, 7th Edition" by K.A. Stroud (with Dexter J. Booth).

My most recent electronics equipment acquisition is an HP E3610A DC Power Supply, which I bought on eBay. I decided to get the E3610A after watching Dave's "EEVblog #166 - HP Agilent E3610A Lab Power Supply" on YouTube.

On the non-electronics personal side, I have two daughters. The oldest is a PO2 in the US Navy where she works as an IT Technician on an aircraft carrier. My younger daughter is freshman in college who plans to graduate with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Best regards,
--Ray

Hello all,

I've been interested in electronics for years, been out of it for a while (too many interests/hobbies with too little time) but have just recently got the "Bug" again.

Past projects have been, guitar amp, mosfet PA amp, hifi valve amp, CNC mill conversion.

Current project is a Nixie Clock (yea I know, everyone and their cat has made one, but my interest has been piqued)

I regret selling my scope (just a cheap 20mhz 2ch) and sig gen (another cheapish model) about 8 years ago, I thought I had finished with electronics, so flogged them on the bay of e for far too cheap. But hay ho, I'm on the lookout for a 'scope and won't make the same mistake again.

Other interests include welding, woodturning (not at the same time), model engineering, photography (lapsed hobby)

I look forward to learning from the collective wisdom of the board, and even contributing if I can.

Tim

Greetings Programs! Wolfman (or Ian if you prefer) here, young (late twenties) technical fellow, been interested in what makes things tick since a young age and accumulated more than enough antiquated/obsolete junk to prove it!
I'm located in central Washington in the little town of Yakima. I'm actually looking to put some of this old scrap to use, as I'm tired of it just sitting around (while I do likewise). How successful I'll be, I don't know, as I'm also affliocted with depression and despite medication that really puts a damper on things! |O

Hello everyone,

My name is Charles and I live in Switzerland. I'm retired now but I have worked as an organic chemist and on the IT side for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. I got my first amateur radio license when I was thirteen and electronics has always been one of my hobbies.  I've been looking at Dave's videos for about 5 years now and love them for their entertainment and educational value.
