Aloha everyone! My name is Kawika.  I am 36 years old and live in Waimea, Hawaii.  I found this forum in a search for a multimeter that can better suit me than my current ge2524.  I enjoy tinkering and fixing my own things like my computers, motorcycle and truck.  I look forward to learning from, interacting with, and possibly helping you folks here.

Hi everyone,  I'm Red Squirrel.   I'm 28 and from Canada, I work as a NOC (Network Operation Centre) tech for the local telco and went to school for computer science and I'd say I'm probably more on the software side when it comes to hobbies but electronics is something I've always been curious to learn.   Been enjoying watching Dave's videos and figured I'd join the forum.

I have a potential project I'm toying with making.   Basically a home monitoring/automation system.  There's some of these that pop up more and more these days but they seem to be very proprietary and some are even cloud based. Yuck!  Mine would be self contained and use simple NC/NO system and be rather customizable especially on the software side.  I have a very rudimentary system I use for my own stuff but it's kind of a mess and I'll probably want to redo it in a nice NEMA enclosure or at least something fairly contained and easy to manage. Right now it's a DIN rail on my server rack with cross connections going to circuit boards sitting in a plastic enclosure on a shelf.

As far as electronics knowledge, I know the basics, but that's about it.  Right now the biggest thing I need to do is find a better system to be organized and setup some kind of work area so I can dabble a bit more.

Anyway, so that's me, looking forward to being part of the forum.

G'Day,

My name is Tim and I've been messing around with Electronics in some form since I was 14 and dazzled by it in Physics at high school.

Having attained my Amateur Radio ticket just after leaving school I went on to be a repairman at Tandy/Radio Shack for some years before moving into computers. I had some deviations along the way building computer controlled pollution analysis equipment and that job gave me a grounding in chemistry, plumbing and pneumatics.

I've used Diptrace to design PCB's from some of my circuits and currently been toying with a mill to cut out prototypes. OMG not another hobby emerging!! :palm:

These days I look after a Proof-of-Concept lab for a giant computer firm but dabble in all things RF with a side order of Astronomy when at home. Add a dash of high energy physics messing with gamma ray detection and radiation monitoring and that's about me :)

cheers

Tim

I noticed a mention of Electronics Today International Today.

There appears to be a lot of misunderstanding of how it started etc.

I founded the magazine in April 1971 in Australia with the intent from the start of it becoming International. We got the UK one going six months later. The others followed.

If anyone is interested I can tell most of what happened up until my departure in 1982.

Hi, nubie here with small electrical background in Residential/Commercial Electrical & HVAC work & a handful of electrical/electronics classes & 4 yrs +/- experience. Now retired & enjoying the vblog very much & slowly setting up a very small lab work desk & equip. for general purpose electronic design/repair work. Studying oscilloscope reviews & basic operation videos here on the site as this is my next intended purchase. Bought a new cheapie func gen., now looking at acquiring an inexpensive working/tested analog/digital or digital waveform scope. Hope to to get to know many of you. Thanks for your time. Happy Trails! teslafan

Hi, I'm August. I'm 38 and from the Netherlands. I started out early tearing stuff down and fortunately had a grandfather with a lot of electronics/mechanical stuff lying around. Eventually I also became able to fix things. I have a degree in mechanical engineering/mechatronics but decided to do other work early on. I have a basic grasp of most things, and basic skills like soldering but not a lot of in depth knowledge such as schematic wizardry.

I really like fixing things which comes in handy in my household with three kids. Tech/physics interests me as well as (diy) audio.

I remember ETI in the UK, when compared to the other mags like Practical Electronics, ETI was a bit more bohemian, but that didn't detract from the content, far from it in fact. I'm trying to remember the computer that was described around the mid to late 70s, it was a single, large board with a proper full sized keyboad. I think it was a Z80, might be wrong. It was beyond my budget as a teenager, as was anything with a proper full keyboard in those days.

Hey, my name is Vinicius. I live in Brazil, in a city called Curitiba. I've been lurking around for a while, finally decided to register.

I am an electrical engineer, but unfortunately circumstances drove me away from working as such - I ended up working with IT (SAP systems) for a living, but did spend some 3-4 years working in testing and compliance verification labs while in university, which was lots of fun.

I tried to keep minimally in touch with engineering by means of hobby stuff, and some 2 years ago I started teaching classes in a technicians school, teaching mostly basic lab classes.

Well that's it! See ya!

Hi all,

I'm Alan, from Newton Massachusetts, bordering Boston. Currently a systems engineer, trained in electronics and also have a good deal of software experience. Most of my work has been on medical devices - cardiac, neurological, most recently a proton therapy system for zapping tumors.

I'm currently finishing up a book on product development for O'Reilly, Prototype to Product, a Practical Guide to Getting to Market:

I'm generally blown away by how low the barrier to entry's become to doing incredibly sophisticated systems, and love Dave's eevblog videos.

Hi Guys,

Happy Christmas!

I'm Will and live in north Dublin, Ireland. Active homebrewer and am into Arduino and similar controllers.
Found you via searching about the Hantek Scope software. Many thanks to all for the work done so far.

Why did I need a scope? To try to debug my microwave oven induction heater project!

Also got the version with the logic analyser to help with the Arduino stuff.

Hello everyone,

My name is Hashim and I am an electronic hobbyist from India. Pardon my not so perfect English as its not my native language.

My interest in electronics started from childhood as I was always curious to know how the appliances at my home worked. I used to take apart my toys to see the electronic circuits inside them and my parents were not happy with that.

When my toys playing age was over and I got my first PC, guess what. I took it apart as well and blew its motherboard. After some years of working the monitor developed an issue and it won't show red colour. Now I had my first soldering Iron and luckily I managed to fix that issue in the monitor by just changing the picture tube base which was burnt partially.

I also used to visit a TV repair shop which was owned by an old gentlemen and he was expert in repairing CRT televisions. He gave me my first digital multimeter and also used to give me old but still working components like capacitors etc for my hobby projects.

During school days with my friend Nitin we made several cool electronic gadgets like Audio amp using LA4440 ic and later on we got to know about 3055 transistor and it was all fun back then.

Now at the age of 29 although not studied electronics (took Biology and now into freelance web development  :P) I have gathered some basic knowledge of how things in electronic circuits work and at least now I am able to repair my home appliances and not for saving money but I just enjoy doing it. Applying thermal grease on transistors, making a good solder joint are just so much therapeutic to me. There is a market dedicated to electronic components here in my city called "mamu bhanja", not a very big one and often sells those "one hung low" quality stuff but still I love to visit this market whenever I pass from the streets nearby.

Came to know about EEVblog from its Youtube videos and I really like those videos and subscribed the channel after watching the first video  :-+

Greetings,

I'm Ray. Originally went to school (many decades back) as an EE student, but switched to CS (which was called EDP in those days). Always tried to keep one foot in both worlds. What with the Maker/Arduino sphere, it seems a natural place to be. Currently doing on-line resale (non-electronics tho), and habitat restoration. Long time Mac person, and sometimes Mac dev. Would love to see more test gear with OS X software.

Once upon a time I was soldering together MITS and SWTPC systems for friends and clients. Plenty of older test gear stashed out back in another building. Need to dig it all out and see what still works. Lots of Eico, Heathkit and SWTPC, and one KSR-33.

Currently residing in rural north Florida.

ETA: I was once part of, but not the license holder for, WA4VQW (mentioning this on the odd chance some old chums are floating around here on eev).

I graduated as an electrical engineer telecommunications back in 1998. Since 2000 however I have been working almost exclusively as a software developer and recently I got caught by my roots in electronics when I discovered the Arduino and the huge community around it. Microcontrollers like the Atmel ATMega328 are IMHO a real gem for their price which could not have been dreamed of back in the 90ies.
Today I'm rediscovering the knowledge I once had of analog electronics and I really enjoy the expertise of Dave when he tears down a device. For me it is a invaluable resource when it comes to practical understanding how a electronical device works. The last couple of years the price of measuring instruments has dropped so significantly that it has become in reach of most electronics hobbyists. Like Dave advised I bought an old analog scope (KIKUSUI COS6150) and recently a Rigol DS1054Z and having both I really understand why it is great to have both an CRO and a DSO. An oscilloscope is a must have instrument if you want to learn the most important aspects that matter in practical electronics.
I've come to a point that I might consider a 'come-back' to electronics professionally if the time is right...

Cheers,
Tim

Hello from Texas.  I am an electrical technician by trade, working at an engineering firm building down-hole oil well logging while drilling tools.  I hold an a degree from ITT Tech in Computer and Electrical Engineering Technologies where I graduated with a 3.97 GPA in 2009.  I was the president of the electrical engineering club for 3 terms as well as two time runner up in the electrical science fair.  Right after graduation,  I went to work with the engineering firm I am with now.

I have always been a tinkerer.  Working for 10 years as a handyman, I built, fixed or modified just about anything you can think of from automotive to household mechanical system.  I can build anything imaginable.  I became interested in electronics in 2003 when my dad requested help building and testing an HHO fuel cell system.   That was the catalyst to my self education and ultimately my formal education.  I still tinker with HHO cells, but that can be a fairly expensive hobby.

Currently, I'm working on power systems.  This has stemmed from the need of high current DC bench top power supplies, but a lack of funds to purchase a proper system.  So, in true tinker fashion, I've bodged together a 0-40VDC 30A unregulated power supply.  It's always a work in progress.  Additionally, I've built a 0-150VAC or 200-3kVAC power supply, 10-300kHz square wave generator based on a 555, a current controlled PWM based on an LM324 and many other small projects.

I'm adept at leaded and lead free soldering including surface mount packages down to 0402.  I've designed and built several PCBs including a constant current LED breakout board for a BASIC stamp with 240 channels, a ZVS board capable of handling over 200 watts of power and has been used as a flyback driver, inductive heater and center tap step up transformer driver.  These PCBs were made for personal projects, so only a very small quantity were built.

On a personal note, I can come across and a pompous jerk, but I'm not.  I know I'm not perfect, but I always try my best.  I am, however, autistic so my interpersonal skills are lacking to say the least.  I enjoy helping others, am slow to anger and quick to forgive.

Hello fellow propeller-heads! My name is Jim and I'm a tube junkie from Michigan. I've been playing with electronics since I was a pre-teen in the mid 1970s and have always been a tube-a-holic. I stumbled on this site from a Google search for a voltage doubler in hopes of using an old (1940s) radio power transformer for a tube project. I've been in IT for 25+ years (go figure) and have been a musician for as long as I have been messing with electronics.

So now that you've introduced yourself and your product line in the newbie's section twice, methinks that the best place to advertise your business is in the buy/sell/trade thread.  You can bump your post to your heart's content.  Have a wonderful day.
